Not sure what this means in the context of an investigation. It’s one thing to restrict the unauthorized use of private information, but I’d be pretty surprised if a German bank’s records are untouchable if records are required for a duly authorized investigation.
“If Angela had her way…” could mean something else than a “duly authorized investigation”. …
Now we have the EU’s GDPR, which probably not makes thing clearer, btw.
Yet, the German’s had no problem with releasing Trump’s bank records.
After all we have heard, surely Deutsche Bank does not think the “tax returns” they saw are the same as were filed to the IRS.
maybe, I don’t know the details, maybe they differ between person and companies…
That is a really good point! Trump supposedly could not borrow from US banks, they already knew it was a bad risk.
Ivanka Trump offered to guarantee the loans with her father’s personal assets and the bank agreed, but requested to see portions of his tax returns to determine his net worth, according to Bloomberg News.
After reviewing portions of his returns, the bank moved forward with the loan agreement.
Well, there you have it. All open and above board, nothing more to see here.
@hallam, @sandi, @evave2 I wonder how closely they match his NY filings.
If this is the case why hasn’t the IRS prosecuted him? (before Nov 2016 of course). Isn’t that an important part of their job, to investigate and prosecute tax fraud? Or what?
Well, it is: transparently criminal, corrupt, incompetent, ignorant, and an enormous danger to the entire world. Information congress is seeking is just details.
No because the audit wasn’t done then and still isn’t. After the audit we’ll all see he worth even more, just ask Donald, he’ll tell you so.
They are more about collecting underpayments than prosecuting fraud. That said, over the last couple of decades, their staff has been cut and cut and cut so they have very little capacity to audit returns. And the complex tax of rich people are the least likely to be chosen for audits.
Deutsche Bank wants to continue to do business in the US. Congress can stop that at any time, therefore they will come down on the side of the house. After all the dumpster is just a customer not an owner of the bank.
The tax returns are the finger in the dike.
