Now THIS is an America I can relate to, living paycheck to paycheck.
Funding bills can come from either chamber but both need to agree on the bills contents and then the president needs to sign it. That’s the traditional and Constitutional way things ought to get done but we’re talking the GOP here.
edit
Article 1 section 7 reads in part “every bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate shall, before it become a law, be presented to the President of the United States; if he approve he shall sign it…”
Golf clap. What an accomplishment. Housekeeping task with a known deadline for months. Total GOP control in Washington and they bought one week. Hurrah, says no one.
I feel so much more confident after all this winning…
I feel especially confident when for the second time under our new insect overlords they tried to repeal the ACA and the House said, “Uh, we’re not doing that this week, ummkay?”
This means Ryan has another week to line up votes for Trumpcare 2.0.
Actually this is not unusual, so Trump doesn’t get a “first time” for this either.
Gadzooks. They did find the number for Payday Loans!
but Matt, that’s actually 49 Dog Days!. the mutts are breathing easy.
BTW, who were the 30 NO vote imbeciles?
Not getting ANY attention from the MSM. When a Dem speaks this week, media response is crickets.
uh, take a break?
So, in this budget negotiation, Trump has already caved on money for the border wall, caved on his threat to de-fund the Obamacare insurer subsidies, and caved on the attempt to get a House vote on Trumpcare 2.0 this week.
And what did he get in return?
One week of status quo funding.
Wow, what an amazing negotiator! Art of the Deal! So much winning!
Assign blame?
Another week to repeal Obamacare
Another week for trumpcare.
Another week for a budget
… ummm…I’m beginning to see a pattern here.
Did the CR include those ACA subsidies that Trump was using as a bargaining chip? The Democrats said those had to be included, so I’m assuming they were.
What do you think is going to change by having some enraged Democrats (think Alan Grayson) step out to issue a condemnation of the administration, or the R-led Congress. They’ll still have to negotiate with the crazies on a September funding measure, and if they piss them off by showboating in front of the nearest camera (which is what Rs would do) it’ll be even tougher. And Dems did get stuff done, in the final analysis. No wall funding for one…
Mostly the Freedumb caucus, I’d bet. They say no to everything and their goal is not to govern but to destroy.
House Democrats had threatened to oppose the extension unless House Republicans backed off having a Friday or Saturday vote on the revised American Health Care Act. As it happened, Paul Ryan canceled the Zombie Trumpcare vote because he didn’t have the support to pass it. So all but 14 Democrats (and 16 Republicans) supported the stopgap spending bill.
You still think that the Democrats can negotiate with the GOP?
The GOP is not able to negotiate with ITSELF well enough to fund the government for more than seven days, and you think they’ll give Democrats anything in order to pass something longer? Just look at TrumpCare – instead of going to the Dems to see what could pick off votes there, they got MORE conservative so the Freedom Caucus would jump on board.
The GOP is not interested in governing, and definitely not in governing in conjunction with Democrats.
Our job is to win state and local and special election in 2017, and Congressional races in 2018. Nothing more, nothing less.
That said, you don’t need someone screaming this message. You need people speaking it calmly and sadly, shaking their heads at how incompetent and pathetic the GOP is.
WOWEE! Bipartisanship and all that! ONE WEEK!
