Ignorant politicians can vocalize loudly that a preponderance of scientific studies are wrong, but the Pope shouldn’t talk about science? If you disagree with the overwhelming amount of evidence that human-caused emissions – billions of tons a year for decades now – is affecting the atmosphere, then you either need to refute thedata that’s been presented, demonstrate flaws in the methodology, or STFU.

Jeb - The right answer was “it’s time to take the health of our planet out of politics” not “the health of our planet is a political issue, so morality has no place in the discussion.”

The destruction of God’s work is a moral issue? Who’da thunk?

I especially like the comments about how the Pope should stick to religion and leave the science to the scientists. These are politicians who can’t tell their ass from a hole in the ground telling someone with masters degree in Chemistry that he shouldn’t talk about science.

“He also warned that the pope’s encyclical will be used by “alarmists” to push policies that will lead to tax increases that would hit the poor hardest.”

In other words, while holding a gun to the heads of the poor, Republicans shout “Don’t make me shoot!”

It is not a political issue. It is a survival of the planet and humanity issue.

A political issue, huh? These are the same sort of people who a century and a half ago were insisting that slavery was a political issue, not a moral one.

Climate change on this scale will eventually be the primary cause of the deaths of millions of people – from starvation, from lack of fresh water, from violent storms or rising ocean levels – and that alone makes it a moral issue.
