Discussion: Condoleezza Rice To Alabama: 'Reject Bigotry, Sexism And Intolerance'

It is imperative for Americans to remain focused on our priorities and not give way to side shows and antics. I know that Alabamans need an independent voice in Washington. But we must also insist that our representatives are dignified, decent, and respectful of the values we hold dear.

Yes, that would be really nice wouldn’t it? :expressionless:

Go away, Condi.

Huh. It’s like reverse dog whistling—a subtle, coded message to people who aren’t awful.

Geez…Guys, it’s ALABAMA.

Reject ‘bigotry, sexism and intolerance’?

How do you do that? Isn’t that the state motto on their license plates?

Condi, really? You couldn’t just call a spade a fucking spade? Why not just swallow your god-damned pride and plead with your fellow Alabamans to vote Democratic this go-round? Would that kill you?

It’s striking – and depressing – that none of the Republicans who clearly would prefer Jones cannot bring themselves to explicitly endorse him. By not taking the extra step of a cross-partisan endorsement – until now common in American politics – Rice and others are retaining their complicity in Moore’s campaign.

“These critical times require us to come together to reject bigotry, sexism, and intolerance,” she wrote.

Because Alabama voters soooooo respect the opinion of a black woman. Since 1789 one black woman has represented Alabama in Congress, in the House, none in the Senate. One.

Her predecessor as SOS was able to do that. But this is the same Condi Rice who saw “nothing actionable” in the Aug 6 PDB.

Yes. Very much so.

It would be like saying, "“I don’t think anybody could have predicted that … they would try to use an airplane as a missile, a hijacked airplane as a missile.”

Because the people of Alabama are so enchanted with Condoleeza Rice. Yeah, they’ll listen to her all right. She’s almost as popular there as Lincoln Chafee.

Now you can see why Donald and Roy want to take us back a century or so. Uppity black woman!

If you lived in Alabama would you want your neighbors to know you had a problem with pedophilia? I didn’t think so. Talk about a sure fire way to not get invited to parties. Sheesh.

Yes, but the rhetoric has gotten so heated in the 873 years since Newt arrived on the political scene that if they admitted it’s possible for a Democrat to be a human being and not a literal hell-demon they would rip a hole in the fabric of space-time, whatever that means. It would be like a divorce lawyer standing up and saying “Frankly, I’ve decided my client’s demands are unreasonable and we’ll be willing to live with what his spouse is requesting no problem.” Everyone would go nuts. You’re just not allowed to handle the problem that way, even if it’s what you really think.

I thought Republicans were opposed to Confederate states rejecting their history and values.

Amazing how many of these “conscience” endorsements ( not just this race) come on the Monday before the election, when it’s too late to be heard.

Since the electorate has the attention span of a gnat I suppose anything done several days previous to an election gets forgotten too soon to be of any good.

Though a few prominent Republicans (Powell) endorsed Clinton, the majority’s anxiety to choose tween Clinton n Trump was an uncovered side issue in '16.

Star Tribune Headline Yesterday:

Former Gov. Arne Carlson says Franken should remain in Senate until legal process done

Former Minnesota Gov. Arne Carlson came to Sen. Al Franken’s defense Sunday when he posted a commentary to his blog that said he is “deeply troubled by the resignation of Al Franken and the complete absence of anything resembling due process.”

I encourage you to take a stand for our core principles and for what is right. These critical times require us to come together to reject bigotry, sexism, and intolerance.

Sec. Rice, I’ll give credit where credit is due, but the time for this message was last year when you should have been campaigning for your successor, Sec. Clinton!!
