Discussion: Comey Speech At Howard University Disrupted By Student Protestors

Not a big Comey fan, but i liked his remarks describing how “conversations” are supposed to work.

Waiting expectantly about his “conversation” with the impeachment panels.

It’s not going to work to adopt the tactics and attitudes of the alt-right. Those who believe in progress and inclusion must show that we are better than those people.

‘Hear, hear!’

“When they go low, we go high…” How’s that working for us?

That’s just the problem: They don’t hear, and they don’t let anyone else hear.

Well, we got 3 million more votes in November than the other guys. And the Republicans haven’t been able to get anything worth mentioning enacted. So, not all that bad.

You can appreciate the care Comey took with his interactions with Trump and the hard work Mueller is putting in as special counsel while also acknowledging that the FBI, and law enforcement more broadly, is rife with problems. Comey, in as much as you or I know him, isn’t a bad person, but he was a weak director unable to rein in members of his organization hell bent on sabotaging a presidential candidate to benefit another candidate who does not care about civil rights or police brutality.

Those protestors deserve to have their voices heard, too.

When Hillary Clinton talks about the various forces that helped trumPP win and herself to lose, Comey makes the cut along with Russia, FB fake news, etc. Eleven days before the election he talked about Anthony Weiner’s email and reintroduced Clinton’s email. Her support sank like a stone after that including in the important states of WI, PA and MI which were supporting her before that speech. I would have jeered as loud as anyone else in that audience

Except this wasn’t a “conversation” at all. This was a speech. If Comey wants to have a real conversation, he needs to take and answer questions, specifically about “The Ferguson Effect” and other baked into the justice system biases. IF at that point, we see the same behavior, then you can jump all over these kids. Having Comey at Howard must seem like an awful slap in the face, I get the anger.

After Comey’s actions during the election, he shouldn’t expect to be treated with respect.

Doesn’t work with bullies. If you continually let them punch you in the face, guess what? They constantly punch you in the face. Gotta punch back.

And yet PP is still president and they control the House and Senate.

I must say that I am still wrestling with this. My natural instinct has been to listen to both (or all) sides patiently. After watching the Republicans since November 2000, I’ve had this growing urge to just shut them out. They won’t play fairly. They lie, they cheat, they steal. Suppressing votes is almost akin to murder, imho – by suppressing a group’s votes, one is effectively silencing the group.

Then I see another interview with or speech by Michelle Obama. I adore Mrs. Obama with all my heart.

I am trying to listen to my better angels lately. I’ve even pulled back from reading the news everyday, meditated, followed my doctors’ advice to the tee.

However, we are fighting ignorance, never before seen levels of greed and pure evil on so many levels and from many more angles. As usual, I have made an effort to talk up the folks around me (the ones who will listen) about how important it is to show up to vote, explain to them the fights on Capitol Hill, what they mean to us down here, etc. I am taken aback at the level of disinterest (though not everyone, obviously), yet they seem to have an opinion.

I’m not even sure where I’m going with this, except to say I get it. Going High doesn’t appear to be getting us very far at the moment – and it’s tough to keep hope when you’re on the lower rungs of the ladder. I can only imagine what it’s like for those lower than myself (yes, mostly folks of color) who rarely ever get a leg up. I don’t have even some of the answers … yet.

All of that said, I still am one who almost always tries to follow my better angels. With today’s “conservative,” that is getting nearly impossible. Let’s hope Mueller can start this ball rolling soon – but only if he feels he has what he needs. For many people–and I’m already hearing from a few friends–we’re at our rope’s end, nothing to lose anymore, nothing positive to look forward to.

I always look forward to reading what you have to say, Plucky.

It takes time to get things right after a terrible error.

This had “disaster” written all over it from the first time somebody said, “Hey, let’s get James Comey to address this historically-black university.”

Just about everyone associated with the 2016 election has come out looking worse reputationally, and very warranted in almost all cases.

One of the few exceptions-Obama. Remarkable man of integrity.

Yet he’s deemed a martyr to the cause of bringing trumpp down.

Slower than other methods but I’d say it is working and it will have a longer lasting effect on the country, and the world.

When they go low I’d kick them in the ass and I still go high… :expressionless:

That’s my ideal.

(And I think that’s what Michelle was doing).
