I loved the article in The Week magazine this morning by David Faris. Some excerpts:
Is anyone in the Republican Party actually enjoying this endless, ugly, humiliating Cirque du Scandal of criminality, venality, and dangerous incompetence? Probably not, but the GOP is playing roulette anyway, not just with all of our lives, but with its own political fortunes as well. Apart from a handful of unctuous poseurs in the Senate who enjoy tweeting big words about how “troubled” they are by each successive outrage only to quietly choose shameless capitulation, Republican officials have refused to lift a single hose to put out the landfill inferno that is the Trump presidency.
The real question is: Why? Why, why, why? What have Republicans got to lose at this point? They’ve already tossed their dignity and their principles into the nearest dumpster so that they might seize the opportunity to throw millions of downtrodden Real Americans off their health insurance and into penury.
As needless chaos swirls around them, the institutional Republican Party remains steadfastly, cynically committed to the bargain they have made with perhaps the stupidest human being ever to lead a major country in modern history.
Cowed by the base’s incoherent fury against NAFTA and immigration and anyone who isn’t white, a Pence administration would be unlikely to return to the pre-Trump GOP policy positions on these issues. And unlike Trump, Pence would be a credible steward of the party’s plan to turn America into a network of soup kitchens, debtor’s prisons, coal mines, and military bases.
To repeat myself (sorry): the Republicans are requesting all relevant documents in order to find material with which to attack Comey. The more material they have, the bigger their opening. They figure that Trump can’t get any more damaged than he has already, and that the only (or most probable) way is up at this point. This is not about oversight. Dems better get ready.
I do not trust the Republicans to do a good job here. They’re incompetent, remember the AACA…Their Party line politics is a warning signal.
This is why a Special council needs to ordered. It would free the Republicans up so they can go do their JOBS…LOL As bad as they are at it.
When Paul claims HE wants to help the American people, his nose grows a foot.
After the witch hunt around Hillary and Mitch’s theft of Obama’s Supreme Court Selection…I DON’T TRUST THEM…even more, if that was possible.
Ryan and McConell’s LACK of checks and balances on THEIR President Trump is a HUGE problem. The Republicans from the Nidon years are a completely different animal. In those days Republicans put country over party and did a very honorable check on Nixon’s overreach.
Donald Trump is a POS and WE WANT HIM OUT OF OFFICE…Do your JOB Paul, PUT YOUR COUNTRY BEOFRE YHOUR PARTY…Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by 3 million, there’s something wrong…she s/b President not this AH.
Distraction. Deflection. Designed to find something to attack or discredit Comey (and President Obama and Hillary Clinton…for old time’s sake). Did they miss an earlier report that Comey never felt like he had to write anything regarding President Obama because whatever was discussed was routine and, more importantly, he felt that President Obama was trustworthy?
BTW Paul, if you don’t do your job, you know the checks and balances. Your JOB is at risk as well, Trump wants to be a dictator, if he gets his way, where does that leave you and Mitch???
History is not going to be very kind to the Republicans anyway, so the least could do for your children, is to try and correct the wrong you’ve done.
oh, now its a problem, before no biggie, but now that the stench of treason is beginning to stick to congressional majorities, the Russian Party is going to actually consider performing the function that the Constitution requires of them
treason did not become a problem for them until it meant potential losses at the ballot box.
In fact, I suspect that the contrast will be striking, as in more memos from the 4 months of Mr. Trump vs few, if any in the 3+ years under President Obama.
Rep. Steve Womack (R-AK) told reporters, adding that lawmakers needed to have a “Joe Friday mentality”
“Just the facts, and it will be the facts that will allow us to go from that point forward should there be a necessity to move in another direction,” he said.
I didn’t know that they actually acknowledged the existence of facts-This will be hard for them.
As I’ve pointed out before, Republicans have done such a good job of boxing themselves into a corner that they really believe they have few options left.
Courage is not an abundant, let alone strong, feature of the current Republican crop.
The first “moderate” Republican to break ranks and speak out in opposition to Mr. Trump may be surprised at what a positive reaction he gets from the electorate.
The Watergate mess gave Republicans an opportunity to take a principled stand and those who did benefitted from it.
No, they want to see if Comey knew that Hillary was forwarding all of her classified emails to Putin, with attachments of photos of Bill as he was murdering half his staff. With that they can finally get Hillary locked up!
