Well we can’t appear to be unfair to our psychotic Republican overlords, that would fly in the face of comity, which is of utmost importance, tut tut.
(& @misterneutron) Pretty funny. But words cannot express my disappointment that nobody’s yet run with the obvious moniker of a guy whose name I never heard before today, the – third? – guy who Cohen said would know all about certain Trump financial activities, one Matthew Calamari. I mean, if anybody should have a nickname just made for this Dumbfellas production, surely it’s Matty Squid! I beg you guys, please make this a thing.
[ETA: OMGOMGOMG, just saw this video of Matty – he simply can’t be real he’s so perfect:

And to Mister N, @tpr and @rascal_crone on a more serious note: the media haven’t been finding it interesting enough to cover in any depth, but the Dems are proving more than capable of walking, chewing gum, baton-twirling and speaking French at the same time, with hearings and/or legislation on voting rights, gun safety, health care, the assorted atrocities visited upon children at the border, and more. If we can figure out how to make those trivialities as entertaining to the people most folks depend on for information as the (important!) testimony of Trump’s reformed henchman, posterity will thank us.
Is it right or wrong for the American public to see Trump’s tax returns?
We need to stop worrying about what things are going to look like and simple do the right thing.
Trump keros demanding that we help him fulfill his campaign promises. Here’s a place where we can do that.
We can pretty much guarantee you that Trump said no such thing.
This is a bad telenovella !
He’s afraid of germs
He’s having unprotected sex with a pornstar, so he’s not THAT afraid.
Applying the same standards to the POTUS (or POTUS in spe) as the rest of the population is silly. You want him/her to be better - far better - than the rest of the population, and that includes not cheating on taxes…
Well , Doofus has official and unofficial tax returns ; its the unofficial ones that he doesn*t want seen .
I think that term is reserved for times when Kavanaugh is in the house.
I wasn’t being funny. Alexander Butterfield is the man who revealed to the Senate committee that Nixon had tapes of his interactions in the Oval Office. And John Dean was the more honorable version of Cohen - the close attorney who spilled the beans about what was going on. This week has that feeling - the moment when the bulk of our suspicions are being confirmed by both insiders and various prosecutors, the moment when it suddenly gets more difficult for Republicans to say, “Oh, you just don’t like Trump,” and wave their hands dismissively.
But there’s no point going after Calamari - he already sleeps with the fishes.
ETA: The comments on this post are superb. No shortage of shameless punsters over there:
I saw what you did there. @mattinpa will be coming for you any minute now… ![]()
I know you weren’t, but Sniffit was (albeit characteristically funny-serious). And yes, for weeks many of us have wondered whether Cohen’s testimony would be this era’s Butterfield or Dean moment, and I’ve worried that expectations were being set too high; I think now they weren’t. (Fun fact: the staffers who first interviewed Butterfield were just asking about any recording systems as a throwaway, pro-forma thing to cross off their list, and were stunned when Butterfield said something like, “I was hoping you wouldn’t ask me that.” Imagine being one of those staffers…)
But I thoroughly reject your fishy dismissal of Matty; I want him to become the major character in this thing he deserves to be! (And yeah, the folks in my link are pretty good, too; Twitter definitely has its attractions.)
One of history’s “Holy shit!” moments, to be sure.
Matty the Squid could become a recurring character in the series. When things get dull, they could bring in Joey Knuckles and some guy called, simply, Nails.
BTW, am I the only one who keeps thinking of Mickey Cohen, immortalized in Bugsy and other mob movies?
