This really is Trump in a nutshell: he endorsed a candidate he knew NOTHING about, for reasons he couldn’t be bothered to learn, he now endorses a nominee he knows NOTHING about, meanwhile he has NO idea why the race even matters, and he couldn’t pick the winner out of a line-up, but he still thinks it’s worthwhile to try and trick people into thinking he endorsed the winner all along. Perhaps a silver lining in this is that if Trump "feels outdone by his former aide Bannon,” he’s not likely to be chummy with Bannon after this–for a while, anyway. But it might signal the end of Trump’s (inept) attempt to work with the establishment GOP and encourage him to turn even more to the wackos and white supremacists who give him that all-important narcissistic supply. So look for even more divisiveness. I wish I could trust the Democrats to use this opportunity wisely, but I’m not sure they got the message in the primaries and in November that they need to build and revitalize their base.
