Yes, I think this is the real key. The NRA has fallen into the same self-radicalization spiral that often befalls interest groups (PETA, to name one example, once sounded vaguely sane). The moderates slowly get disillusioned and wander away, reinforcing the power of the nuts and making membership, on average, that much more extreme. At the end, you have only the nuttiest of the nuts, acting out in weak or sad (sad!) ways because they’re just desperate for attention.
The NRA will surely exist in some form in twenty years, but it may have as much sway over mainstream culture as does PETA.

Those who care about gun safety should buy all of the gun companies, break the companies’ ties to the NRA, re-tool and innovate the gun factory and start building fully traceable and safer computer controlled weapons and bullets. We should be able to remotely detect every gun in a public or private space.
The NRA and its Bitch-Wraith, Dana, have declared war on all of us and our children. They are entirely unconcerned about the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent citizens, and that’s why it’s moral and fair to hope they are the victims of a mass shooter. The NRA is fanning the flames of death and murder and that’s all we need to know. If Dana is murdered with a gun, it’s nothing more than freedom speaking and karma screaming.

In the hours after a mass shooting in America, there’s recently been a noticeable pattern: Gun companies’ stock prices go up. It happened after San Bernardino. It happened after the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando. And it happened again on Monday, after the massacre in Las Vegas. The spikes in share prices are now predictable enough that financiers bet on them happening again.

Kind of odd for Wayne LaPierre in his speech to cite John F. Kennedy and Tip O’Neil as Democrats that he approves of. Both served honorably in the armed forces, in JFK’s case he was a war hero while Wayne had some issues with his mental stability and sat out Vietnam.
They were around when the NRA advocated for sportsman and sensible firearms laws. Now the NRA is one blade short of a grassy knoll and plays footsie with authoritarians in Russia.

Run for office- and run FOR something! Don’t just run against Trump. You’ll either be preaching to the choir or confirming, in some people’s minds, that ‘the elites’ are out to get their man.
Get REAL specific, too. You want to run on jobs or healthcare reform or the new landfill? You must have a plan. THEN point out the difference between having a plan, and promising to work on a plan “very soon”.
This site, https://www.runforoffice.org/, allows you to enter your ZIP code and see what offices are available to you and the filing window for that office. They also have a few video short-courses on running a campaign. In my state you file for office during a 1-week period in May, just three months from now.
Become a Precinct Committee Officer, sometimes it’s a Ward officer. Meet your neighbors and get out the vote. Find good citizens willing to run for office.
Run for School Board. Make sure Civics is being properly taught. Think a majority of America knows how government works? Just 26% of eligible voters in America voted for Trump, and half of all voters stayed home last November. Today’s 10-year olds will be voting for President in 8 years.
Run for Mayor, City Council, County Commissioner, Borough Assembly. And get on your Planning Commission.
Run for State Legislature or Congress. The next census is in 2020 when we’ll redraw Congressional Districts. Trump is ALREADY trying to rig the census- talk about ‘voter fraud’!
Register people to vote. If you need to help people overcome the GOP-led Voter run around help them do that. This site, https://www.aauw.org/resource/organize-a-voter-registration-drive/, has a how-to on organizing a voter registration drive. Or even sitting outside Wal Mart with a folding chair and a card table.
