How about Jefferson Davis?
The Confederacy and Trump are a good fit: exploiting others is fine as long as it serves my economic interests, and the government better not tell me otherwise. Same thing with Climate Change, it might be causing trouble in places like Mozambique, but donāt regulate me or Iāll harm you.
West Point Graduate, as were many Confederate Generals
Yes! As someone who lives in the south Iām really sick of this resurgence of the āLost Causeā mythology courtesy of Trump and Trump cultists. The glorification of Confederate generals has always been mind-boggling to me. There were a couple of statues of them in my town that were thankfully removed from public property after Charlottesville. They were placed in a private cemetery where the individuals are buried. I recently visited the cemetery and saw where someone had placed a bunch of little confederate flags at each of the graves. I will never understand it.
You got me all wrong, I was being sarcastic. My meaning was more that he probably feels he has to temper his remarks about Lee because of where he is from, South Carolina, and he probably tip-toed around sensitive Civil War issues many times in his political life to keep the peace.
The Jefferson Davis Wikipedia entry cites his āfeuds with powerful state governors and generals, favoritism toward old friends, inability to get along with people who disagreed with him, neglect of civil matters in favor of military ones, and resistance to public opinion,ā as reasons he was such a failure. I think Davis is really the one Trump resembles! Compared to them, Boris Badanov is positively civic-minded.
Completely OT
Hereās your Sunday chuckle:
On April 23 the San Luis Obispo Tribune published a story about how master spy and super stealthy Uber-jumper Devin Nunes had scheduled a fundraiser in San Luis Obispo County (CA).
https://www.sanluisobispo.com/news/local/article229601309.html
The article noted that the invitation to the rubes read: āDue to tight security issues, please DO NOT POST anything about this event on your social media: Not your website, Facebook, Twitter nor any other! Thank you!ā
The invitation described Nunes as āa man for and of the people.ā Being as Nunes hasnāt appeared publicly before any of his constituents in ages itās clear that his popularity with the masses necessitated the need for the utmost secrecy to avoid the specter of his being mobbed by adoring throngs.
Unfortunately for the āman of and for the people,ā the secrecy surrounding the event lasted about 48 hours, when it was outed on Twitter with the help of Devin Nunesā Cow. Yes, thatās the same cow/Twitter account Lilā Dev recently sued for $250 million; the same cow that has more Twitter followers than Nunes himself.
Spoiler Alert: Itās June 28 in Pismo Beach.
No word yet on when or if Mr. Popularās fundraiser will be rescheduled for SLO County.
Thank you, Republicans, for allowing us to finally get the truth out into the broad culture.
Today is finally the beginning of the definite end of the Confederate South. The rebels aināt wearinā pants.
Itās the same with immigration. By moving orphan children all over the country, Trump and the Republicans are seeding the broad heartland with deep empathy for immigrants by people who wouldnāt otherwise give immigration two seconds of thought.
Like me. I havenāt reflected on Lee in years. Now I realize I have had a romanticized, distorted view of him, of just the noble stuff.
No longer. Heck of a job, Donald!
( laughs in Russian)
Fuck Robert E Lee. He was a traitor and Iām sick to death of the Confederate hagiography. They were traitors who were trying to keep enslaving people.
I strongly oppose necrophilia.
As Republican strategist Rick Wilson called his Trump Tower penthouse; It looks like Liberace threw up everywhere.
Hey, donāt knock it if you havenāt tried it.
Seriously- Poor Guy Fawkes just wanted to practice his religion in peace and he gets burned in effigy every year. Robert E Lee was a real traitor who went to war against the constitution on behalf of slavery and we name schools for him.
We are fucked up.
I saw a comment elsewhere that Trump is a poor manās idea of a rich man, a weak manās idea of a strong man, and a dumb manās idea of a smart man.
Lee was the great tactician who totally fāed up Gettysburg.
Or as someone said, a hobos version of a successful businessman.
A prominent Democrat needs to start simplifying a message: Trump is dangerous. Trump lies incessantly. Trump foments violence. (Okay, a shorter word than āfoments.ā) The nominee should do it but until then, designate a spokesperson and have him/her on saying the SAME WORDS over and over again. Someone outside of the government. Hillary? That might shorten his life expectancy ā¦
Although many would argue that Trump would rather talk about Lee than the Mueller Report, I donāt think talking up the confederacy helps him. It kills him with suburban voters.
Dad always commented the South are the poorest losers in the history of Western civilization. āMr. Lincoln was wrong. You may go now.ā Funny, although that was his generation.
Lincoln was wrong about reconstruction. He was too forgiving and did not foresee what Thad Stevens could foresee and we should have gone with Stevensā plans.
