Manafortā€™s entire defense didnā€™t last an hour and a half, so I donā€™t think theyā€™ll have much trouble keeping the closing arguments under that.

The alt-right scenario: The jurors file into the deliberation room. One of them pulls a MAGA hat out of his coat pocket, puts his feet up on the table, and says, ā€œVote all you want, libs, but Iā€™ve already deliberated and this is a mistrial.ā€ Then he pulls the hat down over his eyes, crosses his arms, and soon begins to snore.

(I have been assured in another forum that this canā€™t happen, because such a juror would be kicked out for lying during voir dire. Oh, I hope thatā€™s true. Because it only takes oneā€¦)

Given the comments of the judge over the course of the trial, I donā€™t think it is clear that this will be a quick verdict, or even that there will be guilty verdicts. This jury could very well hang, since the judge has telegraphed his skepticism about the governmentā€™s case. Remember, it only takes one juror to prevent a verdict. One other point, if the jury does hang, guess who gets to decide whether or not there will be a retrial when the defense makes the inevitable motion to dismiss? Hello Judge Ellisā€¦
