Discussion for article #245922
āYeah, I do believe that now after the American people bailed Wall Street out, yes, they should pay a Wall Street speculation tax so that we can make public colleges and universities tuition-free,ā Sanders said. āWe bailed them out. Now it is their time to help the middle class.ā
I luv ya Bernie but good luck with that.
Match point Madame Secretary.
Iād say theyāre both right on the merits. She can probably find ways to work with executive orders and the like to reprioritize a budget to do what she says, and he could probably get a transaction tax through and use it to subsidize college tuition. His way would be harder, but he has great moral standing.
Why is the PBS debate also on CNN but not on any other cable channel? Weird.
Bernie is Santa without the gifts.
I think they both sound pretty good in this debate. Pretty substantive.
Agreed!
With Republicans controlling at least one or possibly both chambers of Congress? Or will this happen after the tsunami of new voters floods Congress with progressives in 2018?
I wish theyād talk about media consolidation, net neutrality, global warming, privacy rights, and the toothless FECā¦all of which never get any real attention in these debates.
Itās not over yet!
Bernieās act seems thin tonight. I have a problem with his desire for the last word. Yellow isnāt HRCās color yet her pallor heightens Bernieās red-faceā¦
Sounds like they matched pretty evenly, but Hillary is still having the problem of being the āNo, we canātā candidate, at least in comparison. She needs to find something more inspirational 'cos Dem voters really are moved by hope.
Guarantee you they wonāt bring up any of these things. Maybe global warming, but I doubt it. Theyāre going over the same issues they have from previous debates to some degree. Very few new topics have been introduced. I like that Hillary did mention the private prison system needing to be gotten rid of. That was something I hadnāt heard before.
Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff are asking really good, smart and nuanced questions. They donāt get enough credit (as hosts of PBS Newshour)ā¦I hope that they get to moderate a debate in the general election.
ps I love that Bernie Sanders just bashed Henry Kissinger
That is hilariousā¦
(from a Sanders supporter)
thank you for making me laugh. I value that.
I think sheās doing great and landing a few good hitsāthe remark on how Scott Walker would have to agree to come up with millions on day one to get to free university tuition. He speaks in enormous generalities, mostly the same stuff weāve seen in news headlines, Occupy Wall Street slogans.
He is not telling us anything new. Heās beginning to be almost as repetitive as Marcoā¦āAny police officer who breaks the law will be held accountableā¦ā āHealth care is a rightāā¦ Heās also using the Trump trick of speaking about the āreal unemployment rateā (interestingly laid out in the Upshot today in the NYT by Neil Irwin)ā¦
Blah blah blah. Tell me something I didnāt already know Bernie, and then Iāll start to āfeel the Bernāā¦
Heās doing my Uncle George. Thatās all. It doesnāt mean anything, really. Old Jewish men use their hands a lot in order to express themselves. The mouth doesnāt work in tandem otherwise.
PBS is embarrassing all of the other networks with the amazing and inspiring diversity of its on air talent during the Democratic Debate
Serious issues addressed in the first hour:
- Immigration,
- health care,
- Wall Street,
- criminal justice reform.
A world of difference from any GOP debate.
I just got home a little while ago from a minyan with a bunch of old jewish menā¦they were all doing a great Bernie Sanders impression.
