All Trump has to do is move the goalposts far enough to make it OK for the “middle of the road types” to express and revel in their suppressed bigotries (which EVERYBODY HAS) and “come over” to the “Dark Side”.
That way they give themselves permission to “jump on the bandwagon” along with the Racists, Misogynists, Fascists, and Nazis.
This is what Hitler did in Germany in the 1930’s. He made it OK to “blame the other” and the more people who agreed with him, the more people began to agreed with him.
The “Herd Instinct” is very, very strong in humans. We all want to be part of “The Group” that “everybody else” is joining and we all “Go along to Get Along”.
It is an age-old tactic and with the execrable help of the feckless, money-grubbing MSM, Trump is succeeding.
It is a slippery slope that can change very quickly (see Bush 2004) with rapid swings once a “threshold of acceptance” has been passed.
What do we do about it?
Remember the quote: “All that is required for Evil to succeed is for Good Men to do nothing.”
GOTV and push back on this tactic: HARD.
Hold the MSM’s feet to the fire and don’t let them get away with the “false equivalencies” and soft-pedaling of Trump’s outrageous statements.

I think the “half” was an overstatement by design. Anything less wouldn’t have been news. “Half” was the lure and Trump took the bait. Great ad.

Very nice ad. He cannot walk back what he has said. She, on the other hand has described many of his voters correctly. The key now is to make sure that everyone gets off their butts and votes.

Why would Trump suggest that anyone attending his rallies and yells profanities and punches people in the face are working men? They look either retired or took a paid sick leave day off to drink and party. Since the rich slob never worked a day in his life, he doesn’t realize this is not normal among those who labor to make ends meet?

The “basket of deplorables” was indeed a fine statement which is why it was so disappointing and potentially harmful when she walked it back and apologized for it. Fortunately this new ad – while continuing to back off the original claim about his supporters – does a good job of attacking Trump himself.
So good effort. You’re almost right there plucky. The misstatement of course was the apology not the original description.
