Discussion: Clinton Continues To Maintain 5-Point Lead Over Trump In National Poll

Another just-anecdotal but I hope meaningful thing is the number of thoughtful, smart, politically committed longtime Dem volunteers who are very actively working on this campaign. I’ve been to three events so far and people are taking this one really, really seriously. I can only speak for my little southeast PA corner of the world but it’s a good team. These aren’t people who yell at the TV and crack another beer. They’re the people you’d expect to gravitate to the only rational party out there—educated, professional types, who know how to do stuff. Call me a snob but that’s the team I want to be on.

My fear is this: that the GOP convention will be granted wall to wall coverage and the Democratic one will not. I recall the convention for Gore in 2000 when he was being put in nomination by his former Harvard roommate, the then very popular Tommy Lee Jones. As he stepped up to the microphone, the news media simply turned off the convention for a span, then returned after he had finished up.

No matter how silly, boring or awful the RNC will be, Trump is the media’s own creation, and they will try to boost him as far up as they possibly can.

Look for the electronic media to “trump” whatever poll shows the match up being neck and neck. They love jerking their viewers around. How irresponsible and, quite frankly, dangerous broadcast “journalism” has become. Read a newspaper.

It has to affect them. We don’t answer ours either unless we know, and nobody answers their cell if they don’t know who is calling.

I’ve deliberately ignored calls that had “survey” somewhere in the caller ID.

I don’t know where the numbers come from at all - I can’t figure it out.

So is this your new M.O. following the HRC non-indictment-- hoping for cop-killings?
That’s really sick and demented.

Trump might look more attractive to white people who are scared of African Americans, but they are already voting for Trump.

That police are dying isn’t going to bring a whole group of new voters to Trump.

That’s sick and the people who would look to Trump for a solution are sick.

Yet 40% of the people vote vote for him.

A 2014 Gallup revealed that 42% of Americans are creationists who don’t believe in evolution. We don’t have to work very hard to figure out which candidate the vast majority of these numbskulls will be voting for.

Today’s Republican Party is nothing less than a theocratic party. It explains a huge portion of why Republicans have the beliefs that they do, and why they’re so fucking gullible. Jeet Heer at TNR sums it up nicely: https://newrepublic.com/article/134667/conservatives-groomed-perfect-suckers-trumps-epic-scam

And you know how that happened? The anti-choice crusade. They got invited in to the picnic first because they were so organized and they have been the driving force ever since.

The thing that galled me the most was how the press gloried in taking the GOP bribes and openly wrote about it as evidence of the Republicans’ competence relative to the Kerry people.

You really know how to take my already-simmering contempt for mainstream media hacks and dial it up to a full, rolling boil-all-over-the-stove conflagration.

At the risk of presuming, I don’t think Darcy was intending to mean he/she was hoping for more police attacks—he was just pointing out that a portion of the electorate will be more inclined to support an idiot like Trump, which I think is accurate, unfortunately.

While I agree that more cop killings, whether or not instigated by the indiscriminate killing of black men by police, will likely work in Trump’s favor (for no actual logical reason, given that the man who is soon to be tried for fraud now calls himself the “law and order” candidate), I believe jw1 was accusing darcy of wanting more cop killings only for its utility in further damaging HRC. darcy has endlessly emphasized that Sanders would have been the better opponent for Trump, and tends to exploit whatever news fits that agenda, In that respect, jw1 is suggesting that more cop killings will aid darcy’s standard operating procedure and, thus, be a welcome development in his continuing condemnation of Mrs. Clinton. Though stated awkwardly by jw1, in that no one suspects darcy of getting pleasure from the deaths of police officers, I agree with the original premise that darcy will enjoy using this development to further his HRC loathing.

I agree completely. The folks who see these events, get scared and think somehow a President Trump will fix it are already voting for Trump. For the overwhelming majority of the Obama coalition and generally sane people, there are no amount of dead cops that will make them vote for Trump. In fact, with Obama’s numbers holding steady in the 50s, it appears most Americans are sane enough to understand the president doesn’t control these things. I’d even argue that these cop killings probably benefit the gun control candidate more than NRAs candidate.

I think you’re right about gun control. Absolutely right.

A majority of Americans are in favor of it now and I think all of the police killings will increase that majority to the point where pressure starts building on Congress.

I often consider Buchanan’s speech the moment I truly realized I was a Democrat at heart. At the time, brimming with youthful naivety, I couldn’t believe members of any national party would not only stand for but also rejoice in a speaker promising to transform culture wars from a war of ideas into a war in the streets. In the years since, I’ve come to expect dog whistles from the (long ago vanished) “party of Lincoln.” And I’ve never forgotten the fear of the dire consequences should they ever achieve their collective aspirations.

Trump represents the realization of base instincts which could forever damage and possibly destroy the social fabric which binds our nation.

Stop being an asshole jw. I never said that and you know it. Anyone with a minimum of intelligence would understand what my post meant and implied.

F^cking Snow White now are you?
This was lifted verbatim:

Anyone with a modicum of intelligence doesn’t leave room to conflate the two.
Except and unless you’re trolling Clinton supporters.
No use for f^cking trolls Darcy.
And you’ve lay down with 'em.

Good for you! My own area is a long ways south of you, and tends to fall in the blue-leaning burbs category. Not my call, talk to the state-level organizers maybe, but your efforts might actually be more helpful farther north, closer to you obviously, in the rust-belt areas. If you wanted to go door to door, talking to people about Hillary and the Dems’ real-world proposals to help people hit hard by changes in the manufacturing world, that would probably be very welcome. Thanks! PA can use help to put it in the right column. I’ve been shooting video interviews of Delaware folks who are here to lend a hand. Thanks again!

I saw that too… I was disappointed that Nate dropped Hillary lower considering the polls out today. 2 weeks ago Nate had Hillary at 77%. I think that is her high point. Now it’s 65%.

Looking at 270win electoral chart. Trumps path is Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania. He won’t win unless he bags all 3. Losing one of the 3 will stop him. So shouldn’t Hillary just campaign the chit out of those 3 states. 270 has Kansas as light blue. I am not sure about that. But a couple other red states are in play for Hillary according to 270.

But as I have posted several times. I am preparing for the worst of a Trump Presidency. I maintain I will eventually lose my job if Trump is elected President. One TELL to me on Trump winning is to watch the financial markets. If Trump is actually going to win. I would think the financial markets will start selling off based on the uncertainty and fear of his economic policies…

Thanks Matt. I haven’t volunteered in the past but have been consistent in donations. My vote is a Bit superfluous here in NYS (yes there are local elections that matter, including replacing Chris Gibson with Zephyr Teachout).

This is really a “daddy, what did you do during the war” moment. Give til it hurts , all other priorities are rescinded.
