The contrary theme – Trump’s ties with Russia, his Russian financial interests and Russian interference – needs to be shouted from the rooftops.
This is the only part of this story that has any weight. The emails prove only that DNC staffers didn’t like Bernie’s campaign. Wow!! Stop the presses!!!
Sanders says the emails in no way lessen his support for Clinton. Now he needs to convince his berniebros.
No doubt Wikileaks is in bed with Putin. They broadcast on Russian TV, they are totally leveraged by Russia, and Russia has a lot to gain with a Trump Admin https://worldtomorrow.wikileaks.org/
Putin doesn’t have to do anything to sabotage the Clinton campaign. She and the DNC are doing just fine without any help.
So a foreign government hacks into a major political party’s private communications, then causes them to be released to embarrass a potential president in an attempt to influence our election.
And you think that this is not important? If it were China, or Iran, or Syria, would you care?
Let’s not forget that this is a digital version of WaterGate, a break in to steal campaign secrets and influence an election. That brought down President Nixon, but you think it’s not a big deal when a foreign power – one with a permanent seat on the UN Security Council – does it.
Regardless if the Clinton people suggested it, it’s still a big deal. That you belittle that says more about you than Clinton.
I’m not one to buy into conspiracy theories very often, and usually believe that people are generally too incompetent to pull off major conspiracies.
But this one, this one I can see from the reporting on the metadata.
Time for the media to demand Trump’s tax returns and see what is going on.
Maybe not so brilliantly:
I’m actually pretty impressed by the Russians (even if I’m obviously insulted). They’re really good, if not exactly subtle. This isn’t a “conspiracy theory,” the connections are public and there for everyone to see.
The hacker who has claimed credit for this has said that he’s Romanian, and has no ties to Russia.
Exactly!!
We fricken impeached Nixon for exactly this kind of shit and we use him as a fucking Boogeyman on the left because of it!!
And here, the Republicans/Russians are doing it again!! and instead of going after them… we’re pissing our pampers over “mean words” and cannibalizing our own!!
Winning strategy that…
As always… democrats (particularly the fauxgressive wing) dancing merrily to the republican tune, While the media plays it, and letting the real story die.
We seemed to snicker and say “never heard of him” when we heard that Paul Manafort was hired to run the trumperation. But in fact his fingerprints are all over this thing, and now it’s clear why he was brought on. WaPo had extensive coverage early on on the trump-Manafort-Putin connection.
The story has another level of intrigue involving Mr. Manafort, Mr. Trump’s campaign chairman. Working through his lobbying firm, Mr. Manafort was one of several American advisers to Viktor F. Yanukovych, the Russian-backed leader of Ukraine until he was forced out of office two years ago. Mr. Yanukovych was a key Putin ally who is now in exile in Russia.
In April, asked on Fox News about his relationship with Mr. Yanukovych, Mr. Manafort said he was simply trying to help the Ukrainians build a democracy that could align more closely with the United States and its allies.
Paul Manafort, Donald Trump’s top adviser, and his ties to pro-Russian politicians in Ukraine http://www.politifact.com/global-news/article/2016/may/02/paul-manafort-donald-trumps-top-adviser-and-his-ti/
It’s like people are just discovering politics is a dirty game
Regardless if the Clinton people suggested it, it’s still a big deal. That you belittle that says more about you than Clinton.
For darcy, this is payback to the Dems for not voting for Sanders. He’s totally fine with it.
It’s clearly about both.
The tone of some of the emails is a clear suggestion of bias and someone should be held accountable for that. DWS stepping down is a good start, but a deeper investigation into some of the emails (and into biased actions by their writers) is absolutely warranted, and hopefully will happen. There’s no evidence of the DNC actually doing anything to influence the outcome of the primary, but ethics standards require that even the appearance of impropriety be avoided - or investigated if necessary.
But let’s be honest here - looking at the raw numbers, Bernie Sanders was not going to win the nomination. Even if evidence does come up that the DNC treated Sanders unfairly, it’s extremely unlikely that it was enough to give Clinton such a strong lead in both delegates and the popular vote. The intent should be investigated, but the impact was minimal.
The Russian connection to this story is far more troubling than any sort of bias in the DNC. The evidence is suggesting that a major nuclear power, with an already strained relationship with the United States, is attempting to influence our election. And they aren’t doing it very subtly, either. Their favored candidate speaks directly for their interests in Ukraine in the Republican party platform; is regularly quoted saying things that undermine our relationships with NATO and our allies in general; and in general has been a destabilizing and chaotic force in our political system. He even regularly talks about how much he admires Vladimir Putin. The election of someone like Trump into the presidency would cause a huge geopolitical shift, and Russia would see huge benefits from it.
Now add in the fact that this candidate’s assets are highly leveraged, his investments are heavily dependent on money from oligarchs close to Putin, and several of his top staff are similarly connected to Putin’s inner circle. It starts to look like they’re not just ‘helping’ Trump along in the background. It starts to look like he’s been bought and paid for.
Maybe it’s all coincidence - but, again, ethics demands that even the appearance of impropriety must be investigated. The stakes are much, much higher for this than for potential bias in the DNC.
you need to learn how to read a string of posts dumbass
But, as evident even in this comments section, the first and second and third assumption will be reacted to as, and media bolstered as being, only the ‘she said’ to the BIG STORY of DNC chicanery of some unspecified kind. I wonder whether the non-Fox part of the world can ever manage to roll out conspiracies that grab hold of the common narrative with the facility of the RWNJs – not sure I would want that, but it’s a tempting evil wish…
Here we have, out in the open, Manafort’s ties to the pro-Russian side in Ukraine; Trump’s praise for Putin, in several instances; the NATO and Baltics comments; the Trump campaign’s only weigh-in on the RNC platform being to squelch the plank about arming Ukraine; the substantial amount of Russian sourced funding for various Trump ventures, especially the overseas ones, with Trump’s banking sources having essentially dried up; the still-missing tax returns; and then the suggestion (it really should not take more than that, really, to get the ball rolling) from the cybergeeks that Russian footprints are discernable in the incursions from which the WikiLeaks disclosures result – that they were washed through somebody in Romania notwithstanding – how can this NOT allow questioning about an overt or implicit Manchurian Candidacy [Siberian Candidacy, maybe]? BUT, no one seems interested, and if they are, it’s ‘never mind’ time, we have Trumptweets to report. Gad, sad.
You need to learn how to use capitalization and punctuation.
I’m going to assume from looking at your past comments that you simply misunderstood what I was saying, and decided that being insulting and condescending was easier than trying to understand what other commenters mean.
I believe it’s fair to say Manafort is all over this. This kind of thing is his stock in trade. It’s certainly the kind of childish nonsense trump indulges himself in.
