I have often thought the same. My current theory is Barr (an extreme right-wing ‘intellectual’ who espouses strong Presidential power) believes he is the AG version of The Wolf (Harvey Keitel) in Pulp Fiction, arriving to clean up the bloody mess.
Imagined conversation at the end of a hearing with Barr as witness:
Chair: Thank you for your testimony, Mr. Barr. One last thing before you go - let me remind you, the men’s toilet is on your right as you exit this room.
Barr: Uh, thanks, but why are you telling me this now?
Chair: You’ll be wanting to collect your reputation on the way out. Third stall from the end.
Yes, exactly my feelings, miserable and humiliating.
The only positive I can think of for this nightmare of Trump/McConnell/GOP is that, like flies to a pile of crap, we’re getting all the names of people, people we already knew were disgusting, and people who were simply “conservatives” or well meaning conservatives, people like Barr and Graham and a whole slew of fellow assholes.
Clearly Mr. Musk is going to need to build a bigger spaceship to fit them all in.
That’s not what I read, I believe in an article on this site or DailyKos. The Bush camp recommended Barr to the Trump admin. yes, Barr did promote himself, but that’s not the entire story.
Maybe. Barr does some quite nervous in that exchange with Senator Sheehan. However, it’s also possible that Barr was simply thrown off on how Sheehan phrased her question as a negative, which can make it harder to keep your thoughts straight when you’re lying.
The question he was asked actually used the word “spying”, which was dumb. Nobody seems to be addressing that. It should have been asked if there was any “unauthorized surveillance.” Technically the surveillance that was done was in fact spying, and it was totally legal and warranted. So the question itself was real dumb. But Barr indeed could have clarified it by saying that “technically you can call it spying, and there have been no indications it was wrong”.
The IG Report on how this all started is due out in about a month or so. I’m totally in favor of doing that investigation so that it can be clearly established in the mainstream that there was totally just cause to do what was done.
As to Barr, let’s not forget that a lot of the collusion with Russia was referred by Mueller to SDNY, and with good reason. And on obstruction, it’s important that DOJ policy is not to indict a President. Mueller’s report obviously was written to be referred to Congress. So let’s wait and see what Barr gives Congress. I’m not ready to bury him yet. RIght now Trump has been set up to say he is completely in the clear and praise the reports. It’s all downhill from here.
Patience. The reality is that the Mueller report DOES need to be reviewed by many agencies for necessary redactions. Barr has even said Chris Wray will be involved, and I find him to be a man of character.
