Mainly to avoid removing the SS contribution cap and/or exposing
investment income to SS taxation. That’s where the REAL MONEY
is hiding. It would instantly make SS solvent – forever.
A paltry $200k/yr ain’t nearly enough to join the GOP protected class.
For Christie and the GOP, this idea is a means to their ultimate end of wrecking Social Security. Once it’s not a universal benefit, it’s much easier to attack head on. Consider the steady stream of GOP words and deeds about cutting Medicaid, food stamps and other safety-net programs. That is the future of Social Security if means-testing is adopted.
Dumb Dumb bragged that he had all of this Political Capital to spend after getting (gag) reelected. He chose to “spend” it by trying to privatize SS. All spring and summer of 2005 was this constant flaming drumbeat of SS’s imminent bankruptcy , then it was all drowned by Katrina.
Lots of buyer’s remorse here on Christie, but the stupid local Democrats practically campaigned for him too.
When Christie cozied up to Obama after Sandy, he guaranteed his reelection as Gov., but doomed any Presidential run. Then came Bridgegate. LOL!
What I understand is that Democrats were literally afraid to run against him for fear of retribution which we know he does well, and the best sacrificial lamb they could find was Barbara Buono. She went through the motions knowing she was doomed to fail by her party’s enthusiasm for him. But there’s a karma thing going on now. People are talking trash to him in New Hampshire, the Feds are on his tail, and I hope he doesn’t let the door slap him in the ass next year on his way out.
I suppose it was better to save resources to fight another day, but it was real pathetic to watch. The 2 ads Buono ran were decent, but they didn’t air very often.
New Jersey is stuck with him until January 2018. The locals are pissed he’s running all over the countryside and not hanging in NJ and doing his governor job. Personally, I think he does less damage to us this way
