Discussion for article #228505
“The pack contained 249 bags of heroin weighing 3.7 grams.” So, was the total weight of heroin 3.7 grams, or was there almost a kilogram of heroin in the backpack?
If there were 249 bags and a total weight of 3.7 grams, that means each bag had .014 grams, which can’t be right.
However, if each bag contained 3.7 grams, and every bag had that, or nearly that amount, how could you fail to mention the amazing amount of 921 grams of heroin in the backpack. That’s rather a lot.
And mom plumb forgot about said amount of heroin (guessing the 921 grams)…
Ok, with a little research, and the ever helpful erowid, there is this: “Insufflated doses of heroin probably start at between 5 and 20 mg of pure heroin and intravenous doses probably start between 5 and 10 mg.” So, perhaps the drugs were packaged for single use sale.
Are you implying that the police lied about the amount of heroin found? They (the police) wouldn’t lie about something like that would they?
/snark
Sad to say the police lie about drugs all the time. Amounts of money “seized” (stolen). Using 150% of the retail value to calculate the “amount” of money the drug sellers lost.
The war on drugs is lost and only those whose lives are dependent upon it are trying to keep it going.
It’s always amusing to read about the dollar amounts of seized marijuana plants and then do the backwards math to see how many thousands of dollars they expect to get from each plant. I don’t have any experience with heroin, but the sentence was unclear as written, so I did the calculations to see which one might be more reasonable. I’m guessing the total weight was 3.7 grams? but those bags must have been hella small if so. I mean, .014 grams can’t look like too much. On the other hand, who misplaces nearly a kilo of heroin?
A woman who answered a telephone number listed to Tull said she wasn’t in and hung up.
Zum, Zum. Double cliff hanger. Thanks, AP?
My guess (based mostly on watching The Wire) is that the heroin was packaged for sale, which means that it was probably stepped on (diluted) quite heavily; the first answer on this page has descriptions of various sale-packaged amounts, and it sounds like this person knows what they’re talking about. If the bags were 3.7 grams apiece, and the street price was about what the above-linked commenter says they are in the East Bay, that kid gave away about $25,000 worth of drugs. Mom’s in trouble, and not just from the law.
The real question should be whether or not the little girl brought enough heroin for the entire group.
