Discussion for article #240924
The stripes in the background were a nice touch.
I wondered where Big Door was going to go after he blew off Fox Not the News.
I am literally speechless.
Another example of Teabagger scholarship and research.
I’m afraid to ask what their stock image is for Kwanzaa.
This is what happens when people can’t be bothered with history!
“happy nazi gassing, enjoy your holiday!” MEH
Probably that photoshopped pic of the President as a Witch Doctor.
But Jews waved off the insult, with hands closed into fists except for the raised middle finger. (Oops, is that the wrong imagery to use?)
This is a classic nominee to be a Fox Not the News graphic.
Check it out:
Chicago? Huckabee will blame the error on President Obama.
The image is, obviously, awful.
But wishing a “Happy Yom Kippur” is pretty damn clueless as well.
Yom Kippur is not a “happy” holiday – it is the day of atonement, a solemn day of repentance for wrongs committed in the previous year, introspection and self-examination, and fasting (and for many, sitting in lengthy synagogue services - which I should be doing right now but am not). It is the holiest day of the Jewish religion.
Wishing a happy Rosh Hashanah or Hannukah would be perfectly fine – but Yom Kippur is not a festive holiday with celebration, presents or special foods (although that first bagel and herring in cream sauce after sunset will certainly hit the spot).
The proper greetings for a Jew on Yom Kippur would be to wish them an “easy fast”, hope that they “be sealed for a good year”, or asking them why the hell they aren’t in synagogue. But wishing someone a “Happy Yom Kippur” is pretty damn tone deaf.
[Although re-reading the story, the only reference to “Happy Yom Kippur” comes in the headline, and it isn’t clear without viewing a tape whether the TV station was wishing viewers a “Happy” holiday, or if that was a detail added here…]
This is ALMOST as good as “Keep fuckin’ that chicken.”
“So, gentlemen, how can we here at Tribune Broadcasting follow up on our sister newspaper wishing that all of the brown people in Chicago would be drowned or displaced by a hurricane?”
“I’VE GOT IT!”
We know nobody in that studio was either Jewish or attended a history class. Totally clueless on every possible level.
Not at all shocked. Some gopher typed “jew or jewish” into a stock photo site search engine and pulled one of the first images that came up and it went out on the air.
I work in a media related field and I’m constantly taken back by how many young hires seem to have no knowledge of history, even recent history, religion, politics, geography. Couple that with cheap, easily available stock photography and lax editorial oversight because everything must be faster and cheaper, and you’ve created a system were mistakes like this are inevitable.
Has an intern been blamed yet?
Not just the star but it’s sewn to a concentration camp uniform! This from a “news” (read “entertainment”) department in a major city. How uninformed can you be and still get a great gig in the media?
Oy vey!
That would be the pajamas Jews traditionally give as gifts on this holiday.
