If the bar truly realized their error after the fact and are sincerely apologetic, good for them.
Still doesn’t negate the fact that they clearly made a terrible decision 1. inviting Cheney, 2. allowing, approving and publishing the disgustingly classless bio as it was written by Cheney’s staff and 3, inviting Cheney. It was clearly not the time or place for a partisan attack and it’s a shame someone on the commitee did not have the foresight to see how his words came across.
Good on the lawyers who did stand up and expess their disapproval. Had they not, I suspect it would have been business as usual and no one would have been the wiser.

There’s one more thing they shouldn’t have done: invite Cheney. If there was an event that combined my dearest daughter’s wedding with my being awarded a MacArthur grant and a Nobel Prize too, and I heard Cheney would be there, I wouldn’t go. He’s a vicious criminal and a disgusting, no-class fuck of a person. As James Fallows put it, Cheney is “former vice president and most ill-tempered figure to hold national office since Richard Nixon.” And as Captain Commonsense often says, fuck that guy.

There is a case to be made that if the lawyer that Cheney shot while quail hunting dies as a result of that shotgun pellet lodged near his heart, that Cheney could be charged with murder. During the assassination attempt on Reagan, Press Secretary James Brady was wounded. Recently he died and the guy who shot him may be charged with murder. Might not this also apply to Cheney? One could hope so.

Something is missing here. Chaney believes in an alternative world and says so. Bar prints what Chaney says. People don’t want to go to the Bar event or read Chaney’s nonsense in their scholarly publications. Chaney is still speaking. Will still say the same thing he always says. Bar states this. How is Bar at fault here? Were these words only for closed and quiet rooms? What am I missing here?!

I agree. Why did they invite Chaney? That he is certainly a psychotic nut and probably a war criminal, the only second VP in American history to see enemies attack and destroy property in the USA should be enough to keep him off any stage. Why would any self respecting organization invite Chaney to give a keynote?
