This is what happens when you put the government in the hands of a party that hates government.
We may have cut our health emergency funding in half, but we continue to have the lowest taxes in the industrialized world, which proves, again, that we are an exceptional country touched by the hand of God.
USA! USA! USA! One!!!1111111!!!
The people who will die from this are probably poor people who donât pay taxes, anyway, so itâs all OK.
Of course not. His style of ânegotiationâ is to listen to what the Republicans demand, and then to reply with, âOK.â
The Republicans thank him by publicly complaining that he rams legislation down our throats while refusing to compromise.
The Democrats âcontrolled everythingâ for seven weeks in 2009. That period was between the time that Al Franken was seated in July until Ted Kennedy died in August. As it was the middle of the summer, there wasnât a lot of legislation on the table at that time. For the other 97 weeks of that two-year period, the Republicans filibustered pretty much everything. That $831 billion âto spend as they likedâ included 40% of that sum as tax cuts, because the Republicans insisted that it be so, or theyâd have filibustered that bill, as well.
Republicans have such short memoriesâŚ
Trying to use facts wonât work. You need a gun or a hammer to make a point with âthemâ. Otherwise they canât learn. Itâs just part of their genetic make-up.
This is disgraceful!
It kind of makes it a corollary to the old Hippie bumper sticker: âOne day, public education will have all the money it can possibly spend and the Pentagon will have to hold a bake sale to buy a new tank!â
ââŚfunding for preparedness efforts have fallen by $1 billionâŚâ
So when will Republicans lower my taxes?
When I say party discipline, I donât mean stripping committee assignments and putting people way off in the far offices. I mean the discipline of a single message, the way the GOP has ridden the low-tax, government-is-bad message. People have caught on to that because itâs what the GOPers say every time they get up. Forget the Tea Party / Wall Street split as an example of party discipline. Thatâs a disagreement of degree not purpose.
Democrats have the same opportunity - government makes a difference in peoplesâ lives by protecting them from (name the evils thereof). And if the Dem elected officials were making that point over and over again, they would understand his value in getting out the vote. When youâve got a split of just a couple of percentage points, turnout matters, and heâs got the sway to bring it.
Well, when you canât argue in a civil manner, haul out your genitalia an start calling names. I mentioned nothing regarding governing philosophy, only the obvious facts that the chart indicate; the Obama administration has done nothing to increase that funding, even when they had every chance.
Really? The White House, the House of Representatives and 59 votes in the Senate and you canât get it done? I suppose you prefer an Executive who just does what he says he doesnât have the legal authority to do.
Perhaps you should try reading what CharlieE posted again. Maybe even read it twice again.
Then think about it, see if anything sinks in and get back to us later.
I read it twice and concluded the following - If you canât govern with the White House and a majority in both houses of Congress ⌠you canât govern.
Thank you Republicans and corporate, for profit medicine!
Next, SCOTUS will make Ebola speech and available to all, not just the rich on international jets!
My original comment was on the chart, from 2001 - 2013, comparing the amount of money spent between the Bush & Obama administrations. Deal with it.
Of the White House and Congress, the Presidency counts as one and each house of Congress counts as half of another, for a total of two. One and one-half make 75% of two. I trust you can figure out the rest.
âBooooo Hooooo. Mommy! Heâs mean!â Says Icebucket. âWaaaaaa!â What a whiner you are. Typical Republican whining little victim.
This is what you Tea Party morons want. Small Government. Drown it in a bathtub. Get the government off our back. Cut spending on everything. Let me keep my money. Tax is stealing. Well, you got it. Now you little sniveling coward you are whining about the results and blaming everybody but yourself. Take responsibility. Defend your noble cause.
Stand up for your idiot ideology. Be a man. Coward.
Did you see the word
filibuster
in there perhaps? Or is a third reading and a test for cognitive skills necessary?
Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) suggested that everything that went wrong during the first two years of President Obamaâs term must be laid at his feet because Obama âgot everything he wantedâ from Congress while both houses were controlled by Democrats.
As the video also reminds these Republicans, however, thereâs one giant problem with their talking point â the Senate GOPâs unprecedented abuse of the filibuster. Indeed, the number of votes attempting to break Sen. McConnellâs use of this tactic more than doubled the minute he took over as minority leader.
The Republicans record-breaking use of the filibuster is effectively changing the constitutionally structure of our government â everything needs a super-majority of 60, instead of 51.
Only one side blocked these the following Bills â actual forward-looking votes, you know â evidence of the other side of Congress âactually doing their jobs.â
From PCTC Blog â Common Sense Progressive Politics
Did you know, for example, that a total of 375 bills that passed the Democratic-majority House have been blocked by Republicans in the Senate?
Thatâs THREE HUNDRED SEVENTY-FIVE BILLS!

But none of these filibustered bills pertains to Public Health Emergency funding you cry?
As The Hill noted in May 2012, Ryanâs budget called for any disaster relief or public health emergency funding to âbe fully offset within the discretionary levels provided in this resolution.â In other words, Congress would have to agree on cuts elsewhere in the budget if it wanted to dole out funds after a disaster.
Remember that Centers for Disease Control jobs are government jobs, and we all know that budget cutting Republicans tell us that government jobs arenât âreal jobsâ, right?
No, you canât get it done with 59 votes in the Senate when the Republicans block the legislation and refuse to allow it to come to a vote. When a bill is not allowed to come to a vote, it cannot be voted upon. That means that under no circumstances can it become a law.
Not. Possible. At. All.
And no, I do not prefer such an executive, but the Republicans steadfast refusal to allow any legislation to pass Congress has pretty much left the president with few other choices.
Youâre new here. Donât expect to change any minds or win many discussions by posting unsupportable derp that youâre been told by someone else. And if youâre not cognizant of the reasons for the heights of the pretty bars in the histogram you should not stick your neck out at all.
After eight years of the Shrub/Uncle Dick debacle there was not a whole lot of future tax revenue left to spend Icepilot. We were left saddled with two wars, declining taxes dues to Shrubs tax cuts and his administrations increased spending levels that had wiped out the surplus left by Clinton.
Cuts had to be made and they were made. Shrubs increased government payroll was one of those cuts.
Sorry but your argument that itâs the current administrations fault is about as simplistically simple-minded as arguments come.

A coward is someone who makes challenges from the safety of a keyboard. As for victims, thatâs more of a liberal clientele, along with those, like you, who resort to bravado, bluster and telling others what they think. But then, insecurity is a terrible thing.
