Isn’t “white cracker” redundant?
Yep. It should be obvious to anybody with half a brain that Charlie is trolling hard with this.
We’re supposed to be better than they are. Every time someone from the left does something like this, whether it’s trolling or a true misstep, it’s another opportunity for the other side to point fingers. We don’t need the attention on ourselves. We need to continue trying to preach civility and fairness, and let the other side be the intolerant, insensitive assholes.
Guess who won the last election? Sometimes it’s better to take it to them.
“So why should he remain polite?”
It’s called growing up and being mature. It’s called not stoking the flames and making things worse. It’s called being tactful to achieve your agenda, not stooping to the level of some ignorant fool like Haley Barbour.
Ever hear Dr. King use words like that? No. He was called all kinds of names, and he shrugged it off like a mature adult, and we made great gains in Civil Rights because of him. You think that would have happened if King was talking about crackers and honky’s? No.
Stooping to the level of Haley Barbour is like high school kids trying to best each other on name calling. It’s real dumb. Sophomoric idiocy that serves NO useful purpose.
Charles Rangel is an asshole, and a corrupt one at that.
Exactly!!! Why are people proud of someone who just stooped to the level of Haley Barbour??? Unreal. It’s like high school kids, “he called me a doo doo head, so I will call him a double doo doo head!!”. Yeah, that’s real productive.
We look like wimps when we apologize for telling the truth about these racist tea party biscuits (because they are crusty on the outside and flakey inside)
Many of these assholes are out at gun ranges with targets of Obama, Reid and Pelosi. Don’t think for a minute that many aren’t fantasizing about the day when they’ll shoot liberals like they are ground squirrels.
I gave up posting at the extreme right and Tea Party hangouts a few years back but even then the pro-kill-all-liberals faction was getting ever more eager for the killin’ to begin. To many of these goons it is 1932 all over again.
Oh please, the election was lost because a bunch of Democrats ran away from a President who has done an outstanding job, afraid to offend gun nuts who would never vote for them in the first place. The Democrats jumped on the Ebola bandwagon too, like Ebola was somehow a threat to America and Obama needed to take action.
We won the last two Presidential Elections (the ones that count) by having a mature adult running who was called all kinds of names and just shrugged it off because he is smart and knows name calling serves no purpose.
Hell, he beat out Hillary because her people started that Birther crap, implying “the black guy was really born in Africa”. How did that work out for her? Not too good.
Hell, he beat out Hillary because her people started that Birther crap, implying “the black guy was really born in Africa”. How did that work out for her? Not too good.
He beat Hillary because he came out like a fire breathing leftist.
NO, we look like wimps when we RUN AWAY from a President who has done an outstanding job. THAT is wimpy. All the “data” are up from when Obama took office. WAY up. Yet Democrats are “embarrassed” by the President? What the hell for?
Not resorting to name calling is not being wimpy. It’s called not acting like a punk, instead being mature. Barbour’s initial comments probably had LOTS of “centrist” people totally turned off, like it did in 2008 and 2012. So instead of us feeding on that, Rangel instead gives the RIGHT something to feed on. Wow. Just WOW.
Rangel is a corrupt, inept clown with the maturity of a 5 year old.
??? His Health Care views are more to the Right than what Hillary wanted.
I recall Obama saying he would make a strike on a terror camp in Pakistan without notifying them if he felt it was the right thing to do. Hillary then accused him of wanting to “invade Pakistan”, and accused him of being clueless on foreign policy. Obama did not call her names, he just stuck to making sense. Hillary stuck to rhetoric. She blew it. I’ll still vote for her in 2016 because Republicans’ suck, but I’d MUCH rather be voting for Elizabeth Warren if we are going to have our first female President.
If it works for Dan Snyder and the Redskins, it should work for Charlie.
Vowing to go after Bin Laden was an American thing to do and one this leftist was damn proud of:
Q Should the United States respect Pakistani sovereignty and not pursue al-Qaida terrorists who maintain bases there, or should we ignore their borders and pursue our enemies, like we did in Cambodia during the Vietnam War?
SEN. OBAMA: Well, Katie, it’s a terrific question.
And we have a difficult situation in Pakistan. I believe that part of the reason we have a difficult situation is because we made a bad judgment going into Iraq (a shot at Hillary) in the first place when we hadn’t finished the job of hunting down bin Laden and crushing al-Qaida.
Obama preached like a populist in 2008
He also did the EXACT thing he said he would do in that exchange, and has for the most part shown excellent judgment on foreign policy.
And indeed Hillary voted to give Cheney and Rumsfeld War Powers, as did John Kerry and Harry Reid. Had the war gone well, they would be touting how smart they were. Instead, it went bad, and they then blamed Bush. Jokers. In fact, it is common knowledge that Hillary and Kerry voted for the war because they both wanted to run for President and felt being anti-war would hurt their resumes. They just figured we’d kick Iraq’s ass, etc. They voted for their own interests, not those of the people, and it costs thousands of lives and trillions of dollars. All so they could be “tough guys” who voted for a war.
Pathetic.
“He then extended an apology of sorts for using the term, but suggested that he thought “cracker” wasn’t derogatory and that those who took offense were being hypocritical.”
Yeah, it’s kind of like when white people name NFL teams “redskin”.
Check out The Washington Post’s big story on “The N-Word.” Do you think the Post would ever run a huge front-page story called “White Crackers”? Probably not.
My father was born in Atlanta in 1935. The Minor League baseball team that played in Atlanta then was called the “Crackers.” Both Floridians and Georgians associated with the cattle industry (like my Great-Grandfather Altman) proudly claimed the name “Cracker.” It referred to the “Crack” of the whip of the cattle driver. It may have SOME negative associations, but can in no way be compared to “honky” or “red neck.” NONE of those terms can be fairly compared to the “N” word.
