Unfortunately, we don’t know that yet. There’s still too much devastation and too much flooding for responders to explore the ruins and get an accurate, or really any kind of, body count.
“Damn commies and libtards …”
Joel Osteen, do you not hear the call?
Fuckers like him talk to god so much that god apparently can’t get a word in.
“$15 and we’ll throw you a rope. $25 and we’ll throw you a life preserver. $35 will get you a rope and a life preserver. Such a bargain. We accept PayPal. Just get out your phone…”
So is he going to think that the crowd in the Convention Center is HIS crowd, that they showed up just to see him?
Trump to aide: “Look at this great crowd! Harvey did this? Who is this Harvey guy, and can we hire him to replace George?”
I’d bet a hundred dollars he says it to someone.
I wouldn’t take that bet.
Excepting Joel Olstein (local Plastic-Christian megachurch pastor), local bigwigs have been stepping up in addition to donating millions. Les Alexander - Rockets owner - $10M, JJ Watt - $100K personally and has raised >$1.5M (EDIT: Now at >$10M), Jim McIngvale opened all of his huge furniture stores as shelters.
At least three of the people reported on in the article were indigent homeless that were displaced from their local haunts and intoxicated or feeling hassled. They shouldn’t have to be on the streets to begin with, but our local (Democratic, of course) leaders generally do as well with that as can be expected.
That said, the shelters will suck for quite a while. But they are not going to be the Superdome debacle from Katrina.
Thanks for letting me know about the local wealthy population stepping up - it restores my faith in humanity a little. (It especially bothers me when the adults kids of the rich feel no responsibility to do something. If you already own multiple homes, boats, have opportunities to travel, and unlimited options for the best colleges and medical care for your kids, what more can you buy for yourself?)
Yet another diamond encrusted tchotchke.
This is truly awful.
Rich folk should step up and assist in this long term.
And paving over every lick of green grass and prairie in the greater Houston area . . .
Texas Public Radio had a story this morning about “Mattress Mack” opening his stores. They said his stores are built on elevated concrete pads and he does this every time Houston has a hurricane or bad flood.
Aaaaand trump nearly *congratulated" Gov Abbot and others
Heard about Mattress Mack on NPR. Very generous guy.
Aren’t there some mega church pastors who could open up their large buildings to help out?
Harvey Flood waters now have swarms of floating fire ants.
Yeah I"m sure that’s not all that is in that water.
Big balls of water moccasins are probably floating around too.
Very good point. All the storm water is runoff.
If they can build a multi-story interstate interchange they can build drainage.
I had a winger tell me the Texan soil is too hard for digging except at great cost?!?!
Mentioning the image of the elderly women in the rest home up to their necks in water, the winger did astound by saying, “At least the water was warm.”
Yea, I thought, and with a tide a light massage.
