The complaint about paid protesters is just a more overt dog whistle to a basic NewGOP meme, the same way that Soros is a dog whistle for Elders of Zion/Illuminati. It doesn’t matter if everyone else laughs at the claim so long as the hardcore 20% of simpletons nod judiciously.

Fairly obscure, but there’s lots of reasons to like it. During the Profumo Affair, which involved sexual stuff and Russians, when this one woman Mandy Rice-Davies was told during one of the ensuing trials that a certain William Waldorf “Bill” Astor II, 3rd Viscount Astor, had denied having an affair with or even knowing her, she said, “Well, he would, wouldn’t he?” and so endeared herself to the British public basically until the end of time. So anyway it could be useful. Gonna be a lot of lies to not let slide completely before this is all over.
