As scuzzy as I believe Luntz to be, I must admit that I thought this wasn’t that bad. As @CanadaChris pointed out, CBS actually did those folks somewhat of a favor by not including some of the clips if they displayed obvious anger. Most people only remember the bad emotions, the snarly face, etc. What I saw was some pretty thoughtful responses from these folks. I was glad to hear it pointed out that these folks are American, most all by birth. It’s obvious they are sincere. It is obvious they are frustrated as hell to be put in this very uncomfortable position – and, no, it’s not fair. It’s not fair to ask any individual or group of individuals to explain another’s actions unless those being asked had a direct or indirect hand in making it happen. And I do see the double standard – we all do; we’ve voiced it here numerous times. The GOP helped create this atmosphere. They fostered it, fed it, groomed it, allowed it to fester. They almost cheer when the boils are popped.
I’d like to see more of these sorts of focus groups. Not with Luntz, though. Luntz’s whole reason for doing this is to try and get a handle on what he and the rest of the GOP created and got out of control: namely Donald Trump, but less directly the Tea Party circa 2008-forward. Lunzt is nothing more than a GOP media man who knows how to slant with the best of them. These focus groups need to be done very thoughtfully, professionally. Perhaps with folks like Muhammed Ali or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, etc., leading them.
This is an example of why I no longer watch any CBS News product.
At one time the networks actually did a nice job. Seemed to change about '67 when I briefly returned to the US between Vietnam deployments. It was very enlightening to see how the Networks emphasized stories. CBS followed the ABC and NBC broadcasts. At least 3 times a week CBS would have a story as 1st or 2nd feature that the others never even mentioned. I walked away from CBS when Walter signed off on a Friday Evening a rabid hawk only to return Monday and say we needed to get out of Vietnam… what changed over that weekend, NOTHING…
Lumping all muslims together probably makes as much sense as lumping people of other faith groups, and non-faiths for that matter, together. Basically none.
Ah, you know how it is when you’ve had 6-9 Mama Juanas, the Viagra® is kicking in, you’ve got a cadre of boys to choose from — and your flush with CBS’s cash! (Not you personally, of course.) But you can clearly understand how Luntz’s ability to communicate may be somewhat hindered.
Forgive me if I feel the need to hammer former Goebbels impersonator cum wannabe Leni Riefenstahl’s heir apparent Frank Luntz. In my view he holds a rare place in the upper echelon of the many people who have profited so handsomely from destroying this country.
The irony is many Christians would be offended by being ask that and many say they are Christian first because God’s law is highest. People do not see that as a problem.
"Why don’t you ask that to people who actually commit acts of terror? Why don’t you ask that to White America who are responsible for a majority of domestic terror attacks?”
I have to fix this because it’s a great point. Let me know if I get it wrong. But I think you said …
The irony is that many Christians would be offended by such a question and then profess that their particular Christian God’s Law is the highest, the last true word.
Close?
BTW I noticed that not one of the members of the focus group exhibited any of the Praise-the-Lord-and-Pass-the-Snakes tendencies one would want in our terrorists. But that’s not to say they wouldn’t make for a great episode of *Real World … with Franklin Graham!
I quit watching CBS on Sunday Morning, I can’t handle how they go out of their way to kiss the republicans behind. Wish I could wipe the smirk off the new guys face!! His Mommy that got him the job must be so proud!!
