Is Bill a member of Opus Dei?
I’d love it if this pope, who seems to be anti-thetical to a lot of what Opus Dei has gotten up to, would crack down on those people and the organization.

Mr. Donohue is self appointed and does not represent the Catholic Church. The Pope represents the official Church but most Catholics have their own opinions on these matters. CNN was looking for an easy target and Bill Donohue is it. Maybe a high ranking Church official will be on next and explain about the Churche’s hypocracy in this area.

Yes, the “Catholic League” with all the membership as the New Black Panthers… a crank and a fax machine with heat paper.
But, Bill Donohue, if “The lady doth protest too much” hadn’t already been coined, we’d have to invent it just for her.

Misleading headline. Donahue did not lose it at that interview; he lost it ages ago.
You know, I live in a very RC part of the country with a lot of the “simple faithful” about the place. In informal questioning over time ( whenever he gets his face on tv again) I have yet to find any Catholics among my friends, neighbors & relatives who know who Donahue is.

yeah and for some reason these encounters always happen in air port bathrooms and special stalls with holes in the wall “oh glory be” the confessional the rectory.etc etc the assaults are horrible I tell you I wish they would stop happening over and over again

The Catholic League was created to be the Catholic version of the Jewish oriented Anti-Defamation League, with all the attendant credibility with the media. When I was growing up in the 50s and 60s the ADL spent as much time working on civil rights for African Americans as it did defending Jews from bigots. That’s how you get credibility. Even at the ADL’s low point under Abe Foxman, when a rightish/Republican defense of Israel took over, the organization still defended Blacks and Muslims when they were attacked. The Catholic League has never once been anything but a right-wing knee-jerk anti-liberal anti-minority organization. Now they even hate the Pope. Donahue has no cred outside of the lowest elements of the Republican Party. He’s proven over and over that he doesn’t care about human rights or civil rights–only about his conservative ideology. He’s a real swine.

That’s what is really striking to me - he hates this and there’s little to nothing he can do. It’s the pope for dog’s sake, and he is supposed to be all that and Bill is trapped between his Catholicism and his immense bigotry.
Love seeing him squirm like this. I’ll hand that to this pope - he’s making a lot of the Church Militant squirm.
