All this is true. They steal a lot of our intellectual property.
Yet we continue to bring them in and put them into places of knowledge control via the H-1B system. Same with India. We bring in thousands of Indians and they steal crap too.
Plus, now in SC Edison, we have the Indian military in charge of the SC nuclear facility. What insane person allowed this to happen? We have H-1Bs, any of which can and are reporting to the Indian military, running the SC IT system.
That might be true, but I cannot remember ANYTIME in world history that the power on top (for us, for the moment) brought in the citizens of the enemy power to do the most important work in the current power’s companies. Throughout history, the current power has kept citizens of the enemy out. But not us. We bring in citizens of our enemies, China and India, and install them using the H-1B, L-1, F-1, O-1, B-1, OPT, and EB-5 programs. Our Captains of Industry tell us that they PREFER to hire the citizens of our enemies.
Do you mean main land Chinese, Taiwanese, Chinese-Americans, or anyone from the far east? I’m just interested in understanding your flavor of racism since there are so many flavors within the Republican Party. Do you need to call the Koch brothers to answer my question.
Carly had a warped upbringing - during high school and college she belonged to the Young Republicans club.
Yep. Witnessed it firsthand. I would only clarify that it’s the policy of the executives to reduce the cost of their workforce, so lower-level management is left to deal with the deleterious effects from it, espionage among them.
So it’s not like the CEOs are too stupid to stop it, it’s that they can’t be bothered with such trifles…they have golf games and schmoozing to conduct, and jobs to eliminate. But when it comes to leveraging the very deleterious effects they caused to bolster their political ambitions, they have no hesitation because by their calculus no one will call them out for it. And there’s nothing like a good dose of racial animosity to add fuel to the fire.
Up above, you state that CEOs “are eager to hire Chinese immigrants.” This is incorrect.
They don’t care about the immigration status. In fact, they do not want “immigrants”. What they want is H-1Bs, which are not immigrants. These are temporary workers. The H-1B and other WORK VISAS are NOT immigration vehicles. The H-1B is a NON-IMMIGRATION TEMPORARY WORK visa.
On the left, the worship of the Holy Immigrant has become totally ridiculous, and the confusion about the H-1B is just a part of it. The H-1B, F-1, L-1, O-1, B-1, OPT, EB-5 and other TEMPORARY WORK visas do not lead to green cards automatically. Sometimes they do. But usually not.
Not to disagree, however, consider that there are not necessarily racial but cultural differences that do I think impinge upon how creativity is directed. Our culture celebrates the rugged individual – now, we may know that is by and large bullshit, but nonetheless, it’s there. Some cultures celebrate the society and fitting in, and rewards are based on that instead.
I can believe that those two different world views do have an effect on how creativity is channeled. We see evidence of this everywhere: people in the US invent something of value but can’t figure out how to make it cheaply enough, and the Japanese or the Chinese take those inventions and wring out every last penny in their cost to manufacture – not only cheaper labor, but bottom-up design and its implication on the cost of goods sold.
I totally agree that it would be folly to think that this is some inherent racial characteristic. Racial characteristics are immutable. How creativity is channeled is not. The Chinese are one cultural revolution away from even more resoundingly grinding us into the economic dirt. And the oligarchy just wrings their hands in glee as they see our saturated market collapse, but the untapped and huge Asia market open up.
I’ve personally hired an H1B employee from the UK. By “immigrants” I mean they worked in the same office building. They are physically present in the US. In the case of the topic at hand, corporate espionage, that physical presence is critical because it provides badged access to areas not only relevant to their specific work assignments but any work going on in any facility. I didn’t say they were citizens or permanent residents because the permanency of their status has (to borrow your enthusiasm) NOTHING to do with the point so I’m at a loss as to what point you’re making.
By the way, the H1B process used to require proof that no US worker could fill that position before it was granted. When I used the process, it was before the tech bubble burst and jobs were plentiful, pay and benefits high, and qualified applicants were scarce. I was required to run ads in newspapers in NY, LA, and other regions posting the opening, and required to allow several weeks to see if anyone responds. Only after gathering sufficient evidence that no qualified US worker was interested in that position was I able to have the H1B granted. That requirement seems to have gone by the wayside.
What on earth are you talking about? Seems to me the only one confused is you.
There is no current requirement of showing any evidence of lack of US workers. There is a lot of discussion about it. The tech poo-bahs all say that they cannot find US workers. Just last week IBM defended their practice of firing US workers and hiring H-1B scabs by this very argument. But the only thing stopping them from removing the entire US IT workforce and replacing it with SE Asia scabs is the cap on numbers.
If you are interested in the issue of “Quo vadis” (Who pays), google “Cohen Grigsby video”. You will see a video by an immigration law firm at a conference of hiring agents, in which they are touting their services to help tech firms NOT HIRE the American worker. As they say in the video, “The point of hiring is to NOT HIRE the American worker”. If you have not seen this, please look for it.
And the US has been stealing technology since the Industrial Revolution (see Smuggler Nation) and the NSA continues Industrial Espionage to this day (no shortage of cites for this) We “Libs” understand the problem, but choose not to tar an entire nation or race with the same intolerant brush. China is doing what ALL states do, which is compete in every possible arena.
But the difference between the Chinese and us is that we provide a mechanism, the job visa, for China to steal our intellectual property. In fact, our Captains of industry, like Mark Zimmerman, tell the rest of us that they PREFER the citizens of enemy states to our own citizens as workers. And Congress is often going to provide MORE TEMPORARY WORKER VISAS to allow more theft. That is what the difference is. Most states try to stop theft. We promote the hiring of our enemies, and promote theft. That is insane.
I’ll leave it to others to directly deal with her claim except to wonder if the US is still the driving force in world innovation it once was and if so why can’t we stop the national spiraling of the drain that has been going on since Reaganomics took hold a generation ago.We could even just go backwards to a point when things kind of worked, like pre-Reagan.
And also why the “Makers” as Fiorina and her colleagues in the clown car call themselves, can’t seem to come up with any original insults to hurl at the rest of us but have to resort to projection back at us of the same things we accuse them of.
I won’t even mention paper, printing, gunpowder, toothbrushes, the fishing reel, and lots, lots more, many things basic to civilization. “What have you done for me lately?” Still lots.
It’s true, they can’t find employees, like engineers for $30,000/year, etc. An engineer in the country I live in in Asia makes about $1000/month, and it’s not THAT cheap here. That requirement was essential for American workers, but it’s just another manifestation of the oligarchy, firmly in control, until we have enough.
What specifically does the “chinese innovation” of 2000 years ago have to do with China today? The Chinese school system, which is how children in China are trained, is a horrible disaster. They “drill-n-kill”. This is why the Chinese TODAY (note: no one today invented paper-making 2000 years ago) are robots without an ounce of creative initiative. I have unfortunately had to work with many. Americans are innovative, self-directed, self-starting. Chinese are robots. Plus, they can’t speak clear English. And this is a key part of being innovative. If you cannot understand the nuances of a language (how many words for “red” do you know? If you know another language, how many words for “red” do you know in that language? I pretend to know German, but my knowledge of the nuances is well below the knowledge of a German 6 YO).
Why does OUR GOVERNMENT, which is tasked with protecting US citizens from enemies foreign and domestic, support and promote the hiring of enemy nationals in our key industries?
Liberals understand the problem. Scumbags like you and Fiorina have sold the country down the river to enhance the personal wealth of the people at the top, again like you and Fiorina, if you aren’t just a wannabe, who buy politicians in our newly transformed Pay-to-Play economy to screw the people and the country, thinking their billions or multi-millions will shield them from the fallout.
That’s the problem.
“Scumbags like you and Fiorina” - I am mystified by this accusation. I have NEVER supported Fiorina. She is correct about this issue, but almost nothing else.
I have, for almost 20 years, opposed the H-1B and other visas which promote and allow our enemies access to our technology. We need to revise our system.
So, why do you think I support Fiorina? I do not. I agree with her about the Chinese.
And, as to “liberals understand the problem.” - this is totally false. Liberals confuse the H-1B, a temporary work visa, with an immigration visa. I have debated this issue many many times. Only a large minority of “liberals” understand how our system is being undermined by the work visas. It’s a horrible horrible disaster.
I bet even you don’t know that the US government gives tax breaks for one visas. Did you know that you can get 3 tax reductions for hiring under a specific program, the J-1?
I think there was a misinterpretation. Upon reading further comments, I’m not thinking that ND and Fiorina are on the same side. I think we’re all saying essentially the same thing. ND’s reference to “the left” threw me off also.
Fiorina is an MBA, if you couldn’t already tell. She knows nothing about tech. She thinks the hostile takeover is the greatest innovation ever, and the “Future” is a string of quarterly reports.
She is exactly what is wrong with modern business.
