Discussion: Canada NATO Delegation To Russia: Here's What's ‘Not Russia’ (MAP)

Putin speaks English - with a heavy Slavic accent, but he speaks (and apparently reads, when he’s giving speeches) it just fine

Depends on whether you consider Leslie “don’t call me Shirley” Nielsen, John Candy, Mike Meyers, Jim Carrey and Dan Aykroyd funny. But mostly Canadians laugh at the US and they’re too polite lo let us hear them.

At first glance, I read that as “a heavy Stalin accent”

Probably that too.

Other than putting out clever tweets, what does Canada propose actually doing about it?

Plus Phil Hartman, Martin Short, Will Arnett, and Seth Rogen.

And honorable mention for Justin Beiber.

And the people who voted for Rob Ford

Let them have Belarus back too, as Lukashenko seems to want. That would push them over the edge.

I always thought William Shatner was pretty funny in Boston Legal. But mostly because he was playing a parody part.

Michael J Fox too

I’ve had a soft spot for the Canadians ever since they took our people who were out of the embassy in Tehran when the Iranians occupied it in 1979 into their own embassy and then smuggled them out of the country on Canadian passports. Bless 'em.

You did read the part about this being the NATO delegation, right?

IOW, it’s not the military?

Nope. Art. 5 stipulates that member countries will take action, both alone and together, if one country is attacked. It does not specify any particular means, and esp. it does not constitute an automatic reaction. NOT having an automatic reaction was, in fact, a precondition for US approval of the NATO treaty. Congress has still the last word, if it ever wants to act on it. Remember, the last war the United States fought was WWII. No declarations of war after that, ever.

He also speaks fairly fluent German, from his days as a KGB officer in Dresden.

Oh, Canada!

Ah, nobody would win a nuclear world war, and the aftermath would not be easy on the survivors.

And astute Americans, especially along the border within range of Canadian TV/radio.
