The CHP officer should be in jail.
The woman should have gotten much more in her settlement.
Here in Chicago we have a police commander who recently was relieved of his police powers after they found a victim’s DNA on a gun that was shoved down the victim’s throat. Thirty six complaints in eight years against the officer, yet duringthat time he was promoted to lieutenant and then commander-sending a powerful message to the ranks about the CPD’s commitment to civil liberties.
Yet he remains on paid administrative leave, just like this CHP thug did.
The person that took that video deserves some of that money. Because without it, the issue would have been swept under the rug and the police force would have said how SHE assaulted him, busted out his eye socket and he was in fear of his life so he had to beat her down.
Video cameras are our greatest weapons against corrupt police officers.
You know, you might be on to something- a reward system for citizens who provide these videos and audio recordings. Because otherwise, these crimes get swept under the rug.
The thing that I think of is that an officer could perhaps reasonably say someone he was tussling with was going for his gun. Which then makes me wonder, what if cops didn’t have guns? Or if they had stand-off training to not take their gun out of a secure box in their car until there are at least two other officers present?
He wasn’t “decertified” which means he will be working in another department very soon. 1.5 million is chump change and not near enough to make any Law Enforcement agency think twice or clean up its act.
The community that condoned this outcome condoned police abuse in doing so.
I agree. There might have been some other considerations that went into the decision. There is no guarantee she would have gotten more after a long trial.
I do believe the cop should be in jail and apparently there is gong to be a conference later by her attorneys. That was so difficult to watch. How could he have not subdued her without punching her in the head over and over again. Black people get little if no justice in this country
That will be up to the lawyers or the woman who got the settlement. They interviewed him today and he was happy she got justice - so there may be some type of an award from the victim,
Hey. I have an idea. It’s called CAPTIONS. You can put them under your photos to let readers know who’s in the thing.
Doh.
Officer Daniel Andrew, who joined the CHP in 2012 and has been on paid administrative leave since the incident, “has elected to resign.”
Let’s all hope he resigns from the human race and settles-in under a rock down by the sewage treatment plant.
He’s more likely to be in prison before he gets another police job … then, again, y’never know.
Over the last few years I have gone from being a pro law enforcement advocate to doubting anything they say. I no long trust our law enforcement. By hiring and defending these fascist thugs the law enforcement community has put themselves in the same toilet as the Catholic Church and the Republican party. The American people need to flush that toilet.
Why was he even allowed the option of resigning?! His ass should have been fired first and then brought up on charges! Not good enough CHP. Not f***ing good enough!!!
I’m not being snarky when I say I hope she doesn’t piss it away.
A high % of people piss away windfalls almost overnight.
If she puts it in, say, bonds she’ll have a nice little income.
Since the lawyer said they made allowances for her condition, I suspect they might set up a trust. She does have issues and probably could be easily taken advantage of.
And this bully will just go to Pomona PD or Riverside, and they’ll snap him up. Probably put him in charge of department ethics.
