Mr Hawkins might do well in almost any forum dealing with the public following his career on the field.
His level and considered monologue checked every ‘box’ of concern–
that could be espoused by anyone regarding the two deadly incidents.
He spoke as a child, a parent, a celebrity, and of course, a young black man.
If this response doesn’t give one pause in how one views these
unmeasured pronouncements coming from Police Depts and Unions?
Then there are those who simply can’t be swayed by reason.
Most mobsters are very clean shaven, and they are thugs. I fail to see why I can’t call a thug a thug, what difference does it make what color they are? I can call Al Capone a thug, but I can’t call a black gang member a thug?
I recommend taking great care before liking anything MrComments has to say. He has lied repeatedly over the last month and made despicable racist comments that he won’t even acknowledge are racist. For example, he has endlessly insisted that Darren Wilson stopped Michael Brown because he “fit the description” of the man wanted in a convenience store theft. While it is well known that Brown was involved in such an incident, it has been widely reported that Wilson knew nothing of the store robbery before confronting Brown, including a statement confirming this by the Ferguson Police Chief himself. This has been made known, many times, to MrComments but he is still spouting the same lie, as late as today. He has described Brown as “strutting down the street, his stolen merch in hand” (the dog whistle blares) while insisting that Brown, for some unknown reason, then decided to suddenly “commit suicide by cop.” So, one minute Brown is “strutting” – defined as “to walk with a vain, pompous bearing, as with head erect and chest thrown out, as if expecting to impress observers” – and the next minute he is suicidal. This is an absurd suggestion (read, cheap rationalization) to explain an event that is largely inexplicable. One that might benefit from, say, a public trial. But MrComments insists there are no grounds for a trial. The thug got what he deserved – that’s MrComments’ take. After all, he did steal $50 worth of cigars!
Frankly, I don’t understand how anyone can applaud Andrew Hawkins’ statement while simultaneously making the kind of claims MrComments has been spouting for weeks. It seems wildly hypocritical to me. But then hypocrites act hypocritically. So I guess there’s that.
The worst thing is the poorly trained and/or maladjusted cops who go for the kill as a first reaction. The second worst is the attitude of police organizations in high dudgeon because ordinary citizens have the temerity to question the actions of these bad ones.
