I was chatting with this guy yesterday who seemed fairly reasonable. He claimed to be a moderate -- a moderate what he never said, but I figured moderate was a good thing no matter what it referenced. Then, out of the blue, he said he believes that Obama is not an American. He said it didn't bother him, that Obama's performance as President was far more important than where he came from. I was flabbergasted. If you believe, as Donald Trump and the birthers do, that Obama is not an American, then how can you casually rate his performance as President? If you believe that bullshit, that Obama is not a natural-born American, then Obama has never legally been the President of the United States. It's not something you can put to the side while discussing foreign policy or immigration reform. How do you say you're more concerned with Obama's performance than with his legal right to be President? That makes absolutely no sense to me.
