I have immediate family members with mental illness and pre-existing conditions. I have children who are going to be soon away to college and out from under our roof. I am older, and the House health plan could triple my health care costs.

Weā€™re so used to Hollywood and other folks writing stories for us with the kind of uplift that keeps you going that itā€™s a shock to see a person cap his own life, a life lived very much in public, the life of a man who portrayed himself as an individualist, a maverick, a straight talker, it brings you up short to see a person cap the only life heā€™ll ever live with a vote that permanently disgraces his memory. OK, he opposed torture. Good for him. OK, he said nope lady, Obamaā€™s not an Arab. Good for him again. But he didnā€™t have the moral courage to defy a corrupt party and preserve the ability of tens of millions of people to get health insurance they could afford. It flies in the face of the stories we like to tell ourselves. It was a cruel, stupid, gutless thing to do. To hell with you, Crash. Go to hell. I mean it.
