Same for me. I think it’s the alliteration of cotton and pickin’.
On a side note when I was in collage I made some friends who were down from Iowa, and they all had a sometime had the job of corn de-tasseling, a job that I assume would be hard and just as mind numbing as cotton picking. And since this was in Iowa mostly done by white high school aged workers.
Payne shows how you do it. No tit-for-tat, no letting stuff go by, but call out and deconstruct the reprehensible stuff.

I am from the South, and you’re mistaken in giving Bossie—who was born in Boston—a pass.
He’s also the head of Citizens United and has a long and sordid history of lies, racism, bigotry, hate, and general assholery.
He should be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail.
