So Trump has completely backtracked, but is too much of a coward to apologize to the Kurds and the American people or issue a mea-culpa. His master in the Kremlin will not be pleased. Perhaps Trump can make up by suggesting the Cold War was totally the fault of America and its imperialistic ideology?

YES …becoming more and more convinced this is precisely what he wants - and it is just the early stages of a larger process… he needs exponentially increasing levels of turmoil and confusion and disruption to slow the legal snowball moving toward him … and he craves the choppy waters - the odd “surprises” - he wants to have the political environment filled with an infinite number of scary jack-in-the-boxes all being furiously cranked away day and night - randomly going off - and constantly distracting / frightening the nation - and eventually the distractions will also become neglect of critical issues - & creation of a variety of adverse situations - one or more of which may enable him to invoke emergency powers - and do so in a way that enables him to strangle any opposition to his actions - including the invocation of emergency powers.

Speaking of that, they’ve really wound up the bots to take on AOC’s tax proposal, and they’re especially outraged that economists like Krugman have weighed in on the soundness of it. Yah, Krugman. Fuckin’ “economist.”
So we’re at the Left wants to take your money away from you scare tactic. As if all the you’s out there on their rascal scooters take in 10 million a year. And as if 70% weren’t just a starting point for the conversation.
What terrifies them, I think, is the possibility that she will very likely turn out a great spokesperson for the cause and garner appeal way beyond the Democratic base. There’s a huddled mass of people waiting to breathe free here in this country and there has been for a long time: they want to live without worries about how to pay for their healthcare and childcare and retirement, and they have a right not to have these worries. Among the wealthy industrialized nations, we’re a disgrace.
So anyway. We’re not at the guillotine stage yet, but people are waking up. And I applaud AOC for stepping up to the plate and taking the heat. It’s high time we talked tax reform from the right direction.

planned - in the sense that an arsonist simply plans to start fires - … then gets the idea that if he starts enough random fires - in different places - with different flammable agents - it may buy him more time - and he can admire the destruction that he creates

You know all of this and more.
But there is a sense of something looming on the horizon. For that I depend on my wife’s ability to gauge events.
One thing I KNOW is that there has NEVER been as feckless, venal, self-serving and just plain COWARDLY a bunch of gutless fuckers on the political landscape as these GOP Senators.

But let us grant that her powers, regardless of her political prowess and skills, are limited. She is Speaker of the House, and they still have the Senate and the White House. (I don’t want us to start beating her up every time she is unable to fully restrain the damage of this administration, even if she puts up a good effort.)
