Discussion: Boehner's Devilish Plan To Blame Obama For The Failure Of Immigration Reform In 2016

Discussion for article #230035

TPM, you should really do an article on just how squarely Obama’s threatened actions fall into executive power as exercises of prosecutorial discretion (e.g., prioritizing deportations of criminals over innocent children). Add in some analysis of how the limitations of deportation funding make it even more important that priorities be set. Simply doing articles that help the GOP/Teatrolls broadcast their yammering about what a horrible violation of the Constitution he’s engaged in is not enough and only serves to further the false equivalence of their argument, treating it as equal or almost equal (yes, there’s some subtext that “hey, look at the politicized nonsense they’re spewing”) . Have some professors and experts chime in and cite some cases, etc.

“Hispanic Americans accounted for a significant share of the midterm drop: about 31 percent of them turned out in the midterm years of 2010 and 2014, according to Pew Hispanic, while 48 to 50 percent turned out in 2008 and 2012.”

That was self-defeating and, again, it happened because (a) Dems gave them nothing to believe in and (b) folks like Manchin, McCaskill, et al, who consistently betray the liberal position.

I overheard two older white men (SW Ohio Republicans by the look and sound) talking about the election at the gym yesterday morning.
The one said, “My son was all upset about the election and I said to him, ‘What are you all upset about? Their not going to do anything in two years, they just want enough time to go by so they came shift at least half the blame for everything onto the Democrats.’”
I thought the old guy had it spot on…

You would think with all the chaos going on in the house, fractured on so many levels, that it would be easy to push them into there own nuclear implosion.
All you need is some spine from the democrats and a supposedly liberal media to do some real unobjective reporting.
wishful thinking, i know.
The gop playbook is always the same anymore and very vunerable to counter attack. What is the hold up???
wishful thinking, i know
When are the dems going to do us proud and finally slamdunk these back stabbing big corp mouthy money moochers??
wishful thinking, i know
JUst when is it time to do what has to be done inevitability to re-establish the usa once again.

we did that once before and it may have to be done again.

So all of a sudden the GOP reps and senators are all in line and listen to Boehner and McTurtle? Oh sure, they’ll all toe the line and snap to.

Haha…it’s sad, but there’s a real element of truth to what he said.

Except that there are damned few democrats around to place blame on.
Specifically"
In the House there are presently 244 republicans and 184 democrats with several seat yet to be determined.
In the Senate there are 52 republicans and 44 democrats and 2 independents with 2 seats undecided.
55.7% of the House is republican and this percentage could easily rise.

So let me get this straight - John Boehner is saying that if President Obama takes executive action because Congressional Republicans have refused to work with him, he will then be “poisoning the well”, thus provoking Congressional Republicans into refusing to work with him?

The well has been poisoned since 2009, Congressman.

being overweight in middle age is linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia. Two new studies strengthen this association: the first, just published in the Annals of Neurology, shows that abdominal fat is linked to reduced brain volume in otherwise healthy middle-aged adults. The second, published last month in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, shows that this reduction is associated with a common variant of an obesity-related gene.

Your breath? Don’t hold it.

Boner’s blaming the president in advance of having done anything to be blameworthy. When Boner leaves his part time job as speaker he can join the Onion staff.

I don’t see your fact-driven point…

Democrats tried liberal in the 1970s. As much as I hate to admit, voter inaction was the worst ever. George McGovern lost 49 states and Ted Kennedy lost his primary to Jimmy Carter worse than Carter lost to Reagan.

If we can’t win the left, holding the center is principal. We stand to lose more than liberals could gain, given our 40 year slide to the right.
