14 seats. Son-of-a-bitch! We only picked up 22 House seats in 2008 and 8 in 2012. The GOP has a House firewall until at least 2020 probably.Whoever the Dem POTUS nominee for 2016 is,if she/he wins,she/he will have a slim Dem Senate Majority and a GOP House Majority. Progressives best be prepared to accept that reality.

The losses on Tuesday were average in the Senate, and below average in the House compared to other second-term Presidents in their 6th year in office.
The GOP will crow that they received a mandate, but the results were well within the range for every president since FDR.

Actually, Boehner will be at war with his caucus, while McConnell will be at war with his caucus, while Republicans in both Houses will be at war with each other, while a half-dozen Republicans will be grandstanding while positioning themselves for a run at the Republican nomination for President.

Ok,but I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about what that does to the electoral map for 2016. That means needing to pick up 29 seats in 2016 to retake the House majority when we only picked up 22 in 2008. That was before redistricting after the 2010 Census too.

I saw Boehner’s speech, every thing that came out of his mouth was a lie,or exaggeration. Obama-care is costing millions of jobs etc…etc… When you start like that I don’t see much hope for agreement on anything.

The GOP will certainly tell us they received a mandate, all R winners do, even GWB in 2008. But when one-third of eligible voters turn out, that’s no mandate, that’s a lot of angry old white people holding grudges.

Its hard for me to see a scenario where the Dems retake the House with the current state of Gerrymandering. What progressives need to focus on is not national politics but in retaking as many governorships and state legislatures as possible in 2016 and 2020. Our best hope is to restore district boundaries to something that doesn’t actively disenfranchise urban and minority voters.
We need to find some reliable way to increase voter participation among younger generations for the mid-terms else we will continue this see sawing of Senate control indefinitely. Maybe VoteByTinder™ would do it.
