Discussion: Bobby Jindal: 'Of Course The President Is A Christian' And Loves America, Too

I’m normally not an optimist, but it is mildly encouraging that some of the over-the-top bullsh&t being spewed by the residents of Wingnutistan is finally being called out. Else, why the flip-flop by Bobby?

Jesus. Rudy’s getting abandoned more than a peasant family during the Black Death.

It’s pretty stunning, isn’t it? They totally thought they were going to be able to wage this attack without facing any consequences at all. It went over about as well as an anvil tied to a balloon. They made total asses of themselves and made the president look again look like the only adult in the room.

So what exactly is the"truth" about ISIS that Obama is not speaking? That they’re a bunch of naughty boys who deserve a good spanking?

We’ve been bombing the hell out of them for the last six months, but I guess we have to call them poopy-heads as well.

What’s kind of funny/ironic about this is how a couple days ago they tried to smear Obama with a ridiculous claim, and of course it backfired, so now they are going out of their way to praise him. End result is that Obama looks better, and these guys look way worse.

GOP, it’s OK to criticize his policies, but people don’t want petty personal attacks. When you engage in such a profound lack of respect for the person in office, you’re attacking the Presidency itself, not just the person holding the office, and most people don’t like that.

Such presidential material … if Jindal wants to be of use, maybe we could sacrifice him by throwing him into a volcano getting ready to blow it’s top. Seriously, has this man ever said or done anything that was even close to being worthy of anything but laughter and scorn? And he was a Rhodes scholar? I think someone needs to fact-check that claim as well.

And, to me, this is the utterly amazing part…the news, if you will…of this latest fake controversy they’ve again ginned up, is that they cannot moderate their lunacy toward a man they will never again face in an election, a man who has grasped the reins of this country and actually herded the kittens as their suddenly partially effective smear machine worked overtime. And now these same fools are attempting to tie America’s hands once again as terror threats multiply. So, who loves America?

Nobody. Cares. What. You. Think.

Piyush.

I’m a recovering optimist myself—used to always expect people would come to their senses one day. If some of these clowns are walking back their nuttier statements because of pushback from the reality-based community, that’s of course a good thing. But we have two political cultures in this country that see the world through two very different media systems, and I think Bobby J. knows he can say one thing in one system and another in another and get away with it. His base isn’t reading the Washington Post. I’m guessing this is less a backpedaling retraction than an Etch-a-Sketch style pivot toward the voters he’d need in the general. What he said last week was actually fairly clever—he tied his refusal to condemn to terminology over IS and never actually said he agreed with the gist of what Giuliani said, although of course that was the impression he gave. Now he’s reaching beyond the Republican base. Romney did it after he was nominated; Jindal realizes you don’t have to do it sequentially in time at all. Who’ll call him on it? Chuck Todd? Wolf Blitzer? Walter Cronkite’s ghost is more likely to call him on it than those two.

So to summarize, of course Obama loves America, but he wants ISIS to murder us all because he won’t call them muslims? Condemnation for Rudy Giuliani should be coming from everywhere. It shouldn’t be a partisan thing. Rudy’s just infantile.

Of course, Jindal just lost the Iowa primary.

You have to ask yourself why it’s so important to the right wing that Obama refer to the terrorists as Islamic. They never insisted that the Ku Klux Klan, Nazis, Sinn Fein or the Lord’s Resistance Army be called Christian terrorists. What is it they think that will accomplish, besides alienating real Muslims?

I’m not so optimistic as you… But I love your perfect description of the citizens “Wingnutistan”. Mind if I use it?

Hey Josh - can you or someone else at TPM do a Lexus/Nexus search and see how many people accusing Obama of NOT being a Christian (or anyone who says “I don’t know if he’s Christian”) also spend the past 7 years blasting Obama for attending Jeremiah Wright’s church?
