“…said he couldn’t recall another time in 40 years of covering politics when someone violated the “zone of protection” generally respected for candidates’ children.”

H’mmm. Must’ve forgotten Rush Limbaugh’s reference to Chelsea Clinton as the First Dog. Or any of the numerous attacks on Malia and Sasha Obama.

I was just about to write the same thing. Thanks! Maybe it’s part of Woodward’s strategy to keep getting asked for interviews and remaining in the backlight before publishing another book.

I didn’t initially recognize this as Woodward. Usually he’s bent over a chair, casting some come hither glance at Bill Kristol.

  1. His children (at least the 3 oldest) are his surrogates and have said very inflammatory things themselves, so they are fair game.

  2. If I have said and done only a fraction of the things that Donald Trump has said and done, I would hope that my children would be ashamed of me.

This guy who licked George W. Bush’s boots, is saying that Clinton backers’ pointing to something extremely excessive that TRUMP said are the cause of his saying outrageous things?

Go blow, Mr. Woodward.

This worthless hack used a version of this line during the Dubya Interregnum but it is extremely unfortunate he’s decided to assist the clear and present danger of Trump.

That’s the point of the rhetoric, you moron.

Trump’s just too stupid to leave it alone.

Again, the “both sides do it” we have to be “neutral” bullshit. Note to Woodward…journalists should be objective…not neutral. To equate anything on the Clinton campaign with what Trump is bloviating at any given moment is not only absurd, its shameful.

Aren’t you just one big ol’ ho, Bob. So…the Dems should shut up and just slink away because otherwise that nasty Trump is gonna say bad things. I got NEWS for you Woodward. He does it ANYWAY and people like you enable it by pretending ‘both sides do it’ or ‘HRC is WORSE’ or whatever other crap you’re trying to peddle. THIS is why we are where we are politically and yes, I AM LOOKING AT YOU for all your books, columns and opining in the last 30 years.

There are some word pictures that should remain in the archives.

Shut the fuck up, Bob.

Watergate was your high-water mark. 1975?

So Trump’s irrational inability to stop putting his verbal “hands” where they really, really don’t belong is the fault of the Clinton campaign supporters parading about in tantalizing “excessive rhetoric” ???
Really Bob? you want to run with this crap reasoning?

Long before there was a nominee named Clinton there was trumpet hatred about Mexicans, it was excessive and volatile and used strictly to draw attention to his candidacy. I prefer his long ago partner Carl Bernstein in any case (Maybe Woodward imagines he’s really Robert Redford and is unassailable).

I’m no doubt repeating what some of you have said (haven’t read yet), but…

Friedman’s opinion of Trump as “disgusting” is a “reasonable opinion,” Woodward said, but said he couldn’t recall another time in 40 years of covering politics when someone violated the “zone of protection” generally respected for candidates’ children.

These are adult children who have made themselves relevant by being politically active surrogates and spokespeople you flaming idiot!!! Not young children like Amy, Malia, or Sasha. And before anyone mentions it, I’m pretty darn sure Baron (is that his name) wasn’t included in Friedman’s thoughts when he said it.

ETA: Come to think of it, maybe the reason we haven’t heard from Trump’s children in so long is because they are ashamed of him. (not likely, but heh, only half their genes are his, so it’s possible)

Both-siderism is the nadir of analysis.

But surely Friedman’s column which came after (and in response to) Trump’s call to assassinate Hillary is responsible for what Trump said! And even though Friedman is a columnist with no relation to Clinton’s campaign we can now safely conclude that, yes, both sides are responsible. Conventional wisdom in its highest form.

I didn’t think I could get more disgusted at this election. Clearly I was wrong. Horribly wrong.
