Discussion for article #225413
Forget El Al: Bloomberg should allow full disclosure and fly in on Air AIPAC.
We need something ironic to happen here.
Umm the FAA only controls American carriers. So there was no way in hell El Al was going to follow anything the FAA said. Sort of like Netenyahu paying attention to what the US says, never going to happen if it is not in full agreement with what he is saying and doing.
Kerry arrived in the Middle East to try to broker a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas militants.
Someone should remind Kerry of what happened to Count Folke Bernadotte. There is no more hazardous undertaking than trying to interest Israel in peace.
Kerry flew in on a plane equipped with counter measures, and I suspect El Al aircraft also have them (probably the only airline in the world that has them - or needs them).
Pretty soon the aircraft insurers will demand them on every airliner at a whopping expense to to the airlines, with all passed on to us, and by “us” I mean the taxpayer.
Thanks again, Israel! Heckofajob!
“The flight restrictions are a mistake that hands Hamas an undeserved victory and should be lifted immediately”
Really ?
Maybe I am naive but flying into a situation like what is going on over there,I would say it was “PRECAUTION” rather than a victory.
“This evening I will be flying on El Al to Tel Aviv with a fighter squadron escort, and an IDF battalion stationed around the airport perimeter – you know, just like they do with everybody”, said Bloomberg.
That’s exactly what Netanayahu said. Now we have to worry about giving Hamas some made up victory because airlines are using caution. How ridiculous. This doesn’t surprise me about Bloomberg.
Looks like Hamas has hit a serious nerve. The Israelis look really desperate.
Hey nanny Bloomberg. Just stay there.
Even for a wealthy guy who cares like Bloomberg does, this strikes me as the sort of thing you would only do if you thought you might run for President in a few years. That’s regardless of whether you like Bloomberg or agree with him on this or any other subject.
Personally, I think he might make a pretty solid President, but it would be disastrous if he ran. He’d run as an Independent and he surely would siphon off for more votes from whomever the Democratic nominee is than the GOP nominee. Gee thanks, we saw what a Nader-ego was able to ultimately do to this country.
Bloomberg did not go to Israel with his personal jet. I wonder why? He flew in an aircraft which is equipped like a military aircraft. I am not impressed…
Yeah…just ask Yitzhak Rabin.
The FAA did NOT ban non US carriers. He is not flying “in the face of FAA ban.”
The correct headline should be “Universally Loathed Ex-Mayor’s Astonishingly Stupid Stunt.”
Never gonna happen.
Is it an editorial decision, or error that the headline to this story identifies Mayor Bloomberg as “Sen. Bloomberg”!?
In either case, I enjoyed it.
Senator Bloomberg (AIPAC - TelAviv)
Thank God someone is there to stand tall and strong. There is a terrible problem with billionaires in Israel getting murdered when they forget their Lear jets and have to fly Coach.
All it takes is one brave man.
Big Gulp!
Bloomie was also seen sipping a 32 ounce cola in-flight.
