By this any standard, birtherism was nothing but one big hate crime.

Well, Trump supporters are a separate species.

I think this officer was itching to charge a Black person w/ a hate crime just to make a statement. This seems so drummed up, so far out there.

I truly hope these ladies have good representation.

While the “hate crimes” charge is bullshit, they should certainly be charged with arson. Arson fires can and often do spread beyond their original target and claim innocent victims, including firefighters. Using arson as a political tool is dangerous, stupid behavior and the fact that the target was a Trump sign really doesn’t make it any better.

Again, the hate crimes charges are garbage and should be dropped. But these women aren’t Heroes of the Resistance, they’re morons whose asinine behavior only helps Trump and his ilk in their attempts to paint the resistance as a bunch of irresponsible extremists. Luckily no one got hurt…but the next moron to set fire to a Trump billboard or some other Trump-related target might not be so lucky, and could end up hurting or killing someone.

Well they probably hate Trump, does that count?

They should get punished for setting fire to things for sure, but the hate crime thing is nonsense. Even at its core it requires going after somebody for an intrinsic quality or belief. And even the later is too far for me. As one cannot help how they are born. One can change religions or beliefs, but whatever.

Clearly these hooligans are getting off lightly. They are just lucky they didn’t burn a golf cart.

And yet UMES, the Historically Black University, must be the largest employer in town. The rest of the town is mostly small businesses and a few historic sites - charming for a day trip. Having lived in the county to the north back in the 70’s and 80’s, I am surprised at the flip in demographics. I’m guessing the main street program has increased property values in town, and older residents have either died off or moved farther away.

from conversations with those of like-mind, it is always just beneath their surface - they fing hate the fact that non-white and non-straight and non-male persons and, of course, non-rich, ‘get these advantages’ that rich white men don’t get. always there.

Well, the 1964 CRA covers “national origin,” so the birthers may have been in violation had they been correct. They weren’t, so it was just hate, not a hate crime.

PS: LOL at Princess Anne Police Sgt.

Why not just go ahead and charge them with heresy already? I’m sure Jeff Sessions and Neil Gorsuch could find a way to make it stick between them!

Embarrassing job title of the day… “Princess Anne Police Chief”

It looks like they must have had to cut down a number of trees to create those charging documents.
