Nye made me a fan, to a degree, when he eviscerated that blowhard fundie Creationist Ken Ham during a debate last year. While I hated the fact that Hamās profile, and thus fund raising grifting, would undoubtedly be rewarded by the high profile debate (and just acknowledging him gave him undeserved legitimacy for his lunacy), the closing question alone just made my day. It was so telling and went something like this:
Narrator: āMr. Ham. What would change your mind about evolutionary processes and the creation of the universe?ā
Ham: āNothing.ā
Narrator: āMr. Nyeā¦same question.ā
Nye: āEvidence.ā
Heh. I love the new-agey types (by no means all young or female in my experience) who think the universe has the time or inclination to send them personal messages to help them āgrowā on their ājourney.ā I was having beers with a local environmentalist group one time and one woman remarked to another that she thought a recent cold was a āmessage from the universe to eat less dairy.ā I wanted to tell her the universe would watch with serene indifference as she was torn apart by a pack of killer whales and really doesnāt care about her diet, or theirs, much one way or the other. I didnāt, that one time. But I wanted to.
The universe seems neither benign nor hostile, merely indifferent.

Heās a doctor inā¦ Science!! Or at least a guy. Either way, absolutely brilliant.
Hilarious. Her show is growing on me. She had a skit the other day with women all sitting around doing their henpecking bragging thing to show whose life is just better than the othersāā¦you know, like underhanded and veiled with politeness and forced laughs though, not up front and in your face like guys do their braggingā¦and they all kept ending their story about how awesome their lives are with something about wanting to just drop it all and open a quaint little bakery in Maine, until the last one says she actually did drop it all and opened a quaint little bakery in Maine (obviously winning the bragging contest), so the rest of them flame up and turn to ashesā¦gave me the giggles for an hour.
I mainly watched this video to hear Bill Nye say fuck and bullshit. 2 things he was probably dying to say during that debateā¦what will power!
āa force sending cosmos guidanceā
Caitlin, you canāt even fucking type!
Why would God (or the Universe) bother about one small dust mote in the Milky Way?
On another note equally weird (per the History Channel program āAncient Aliensā), why would space traveling aliens come hundreds or thousands of light years to Earth to mine gold or land in Peru to mine nitrates when they could do this much closer to home? After all they had to have had a source for these things in order to build their space ships to begin with. Seriously, the participants in that program actually think space aliens mining gold on Earth is plausible.
Thanks the Maker thereās Bill Nye.
Youāre only slightly right. Heās not a doctor nor a scientist. Heās an engineer. Heās also a guy, from what I can tell. But heās a helluva guy!
Bill Nye can be brutally effective. Paul Atreides said, āFear is the mind killerā. I say that belief is the spirit-killer. When you believe, you cut yourself off from an infinity of possibilities. Limiting your spiritās ability to soar is akin to clipping the wings of an eagle. Itās tragic. On that note, happy visages for your liberal, open-minded enjoyment:

And that, in a nutshell, is the difference between (most) liberals and any modern conservative.
(have to make an exception for those āliberalā anti-vaccination folks)
You, sir, are a model of self-restraint.
I wish I could say the same for myself - Iād probably have a lot more friends!
Love her show!
If you havenāt seen the music videos that were in the first two episodes this season you should check it out at the CC website. I literally LOL every time I think of them. Funniest non-political comedy show Iāve seen in years.
