Discussion: Bill Maher: Ted Cruz Is 'Smart,' 'Evil' And 'Diabolical' (VIDEO)

Discussion for article #245826

Bill Maher: Ted Cruz Is ‘Smart,’ ‘Evil’ And ‘Diabolical’ … and don’t forget he’s a “Christian,” but one who believes that we should ignore the teachings of that character “Jesus” in the New Testament because he was a Socialist liberal…as a matter of fact, just strike the New Testament all together except for Revelations, that one Ted can embrace. He wants to help bring about The Apocalypse.

Godwin Alert!
Trump = Mussolini (return to glory, greatest country on earth, restore the Roman Empire, yada yada yada)
Cruz = Hitler (he won’t put a crooked black cross on our flag, he will replace the stars with a single large White One)
Sinclair Lewis: “When Fascism comes to America it will come wrapped in the Flag and Carrying a Cross.”

I didn’t expect Cruz to do well in Libertarian New Hampshire. We will see how well he does in the Bible Belt however. That will be the true test of his appeal.

Anybody surprised that Maher supports the leftier of the two candidates?

He’ll scream like a banshee, though, if/when Sanders wins, and then get to Watch Republicans make some pathetic cartoon out of Sanders, Anybody remember what they did to Swift Boatin’ John Kerry? Or to Hortonized Michael Dukakis? But yuh’s ain’t seen nuthin’ till watchin’ what they’ll do to the Septugenarian Vermont Senator, get themselves though with him!!

I’m pretty sure Maher wasn’t calling himself, but rather Cruz, a “true cynic.” He was talking about a person who doesn’t say what he himself is thinking, but only what he knows his audience wants to hear and can be manipulated by.

What makes you think HRC (with her feminism) is immune? Socialism is an easier sell than feminism.

“Socialism is an easier sell than feminism.”

So you are admitting that a male – even a self-proclaimed socialist – has a better chance than a woman of becoming president of this country?

Absolutely do not believe that statement is true. We have ~50 years of gradual improvement in the equality of women and the acceptance of powerful women in society. We have not had any such improvement in the acceptance of the word socialism, even though actual socialism is already all around us. Among many (ignorant) people it’s nearly synonymous with “communism”.

You cannot seriously believe that an attack ad with a deep, menacing voice saying, “SOCIALISM…is that what you want, America?” would have less impact than, “FEMINISM…is that what you want, America?”

Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Bernie and I think he could plausibly win the general election, but the “socialist” label is still far worse than “feminist.” Except among MRAs and sympathizers maybe.

He’s a “christian” because it gets him a lot of votes.

At the risk of sounding taciturn, Maher is right with a let’s wait and see approach.

Oh, sure. Give Maher a TPM writeup. We all call Cruz smart, evil, diabolical, and dangerous, and what do we get?

Sanders reminds me more of 1972 and George McGovern (my first election.)

If you want a repeat of this: http://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/national.php?year=1972

Go ahead and vote for Sanders. The Republican Party is slavering over the prospect of running against a Shouting, finger-waving, white-haired, Old, Brooklyn Jew, who is an avowed Atheist and Socialist. (all positives in my mind, but I’m a Progressive.)
I like what Sanders ASPIRES to, but I don’t like how he says it, don’t believe he can accomplish ANYTHING he says he will do, and I am terrified of a Sanders presidential run resulting in a President Donald Trump (oh. your. God.)
Personally I would LOVE to see a Clinton/Sanders ticket, but the animosity is too much I fear.
