Discussion for article #232717

“…People felt pain all around…”

Correct, and well spoken by an exceptional leader.

That’s right.

The cops, once again, aren’t helping the situation.

Funny that their chilling out a bit now that its contract negotiation time. Pretty much, cameras on everything that they do should be the first expense.

Westboro Baptist Church acting cops.

Always let the union handle their own blockheads. They have enforcers just for that purpose.

Love my mayor. As for the story’s “then the momentum shifted,” the AP may have correctly identified a shift in the media, most of which reflexively went into nonstop “noble cops can do no wrong, commie mayor DOOMED” coverage from the moment Pat Lynch started braying. But obviously New Yorkers were aware of what was actually happening. (And does anyone who was paying any attention at all think the revelation of that “strategy” – which could also be labeled plain decency and common sense – is some blockbuster AP scoop?)

@sandyh, the problem was that the union leaders were inciting the blockheads, and one union leader in particular (the PBA’s Lynch) was the biggest blockhead. The stories about his members turning on that thug were massively gratifying. (If that’s what you meant by the union handling their own blockheads, then yes, and hallelujah.) For all the GOP’s maligning of unions, it’s amazing how often the ones that come closest to their bogus stereotypes are the ones that typically align with the GOP.

Unfortunately, Lynch is up for reelection this June–as as far as I know, nobody’s got the guts to run against him.

Man, that’s depressing. The, um, animated reception he received at more than one meeting with the rank and file, together with the polling, had me thinking that surely he was finally done for. If nobody steps up to challenge him, it’ll be a damn shame.
