Discussion: Biden On SCOTUS: 'We're Watching A Constitutional Crisis In The Making'

Well, the Senate GOP is creating this Constitutional crisis, but they are also making sure that that the Supreme Court cannot function to address the crisis. So I suppose that evens out, huh?

“Republican leadership’s decision not to consider a nominee is…an unprecedented abdication of duty.”

It all depends on your definition of “duty”.

Abdication of duty to country, constitution, and oath? Absolutely.

Abdication of duty to party, ideology, and power? Not so much.

I’m not sure a writ of mandamus can be issued in this instance, but the president certainly can call Congress back into session and hold them there under Art. II, sect. 3. So keep them there twiddling their thumbs, Mr. President, it’s what they do best.

“And in all that time, every nominee was greeted by committee members. Every nominee got a committee hearing,” he said. “Every nominee got out of the committee to the Senate floor. And every nominee, including Justice Kennedy—in an election year—got an up or down vote by the Senate. Not much of the time. Not most of the time. Every single, solitary time.”

He should call this the Biden Rule. The term is already in circulation. Hijack it.

The Biden Rule: Every nominee gets a hearing and a vote by the Senate. Every single one.

It’s truly worrisome how radical the Republican Party has become. They’ve gone beyond having absolutely no interest in governing or even in caring about the American people. Now we’re at the point where they openly advocate violence against other citizens, believe in monitoring entire groups of people without due cause, and deny a duly-elected President the rights granted to him in the Constitution.

For a party that claims to believe in the Constitution and the Bible - well, either they haven’t read either or have problems with reading comprehension.

Trump: No constitution crisis; Going forward only Heritage Foundation should pick the nominee for SCOTUS. This foundation is a neutrally conservative and will speed things up as well.

This is good Mr. Biden. Keep hammering this over and over.

Don’t let this be the only time you bring this up. This should be 24/7 from you to any and all media outlets, and should be taken up by every Democrat in front of a camera.

Theoretically, what’s to stop them from just never approving someone? If (when) Hillary or Bernie wins the WH, what’s to stop them, if they still control the Senate from EVER approving another judge? Sound ridiculous, but with this group …???

Nothing. And there is nothing to prevent President Obama, then President Clinton or Sanders form holding Congress in session until they hold the hearings and vote on the nominee.

Somehow I think the President forcing them to do their job would have the added benefit of virtually the entire country cheering him on since the disdain for do-nothing pols on the Hill cross partisan lines.

The GOP has done this to themselves by promoting and voting in ideological MORONS. They simply do not care once they get into office. They are not responsible to voters, they have been touch by ‘God’ with righteousness and t hey act so SURPRISED when they are called on their BS…but still, they don’t stop.

Yes! At the very least, the Vice President should have his staff doing constant searches for the term “Biden Rule” in the media so that he can contact the writer each time and ask why they misquoted him.

the discussion about how dysfunctional this senate has been in the last 8 years shouldn’t stop here. Potential voters need to be constantly reminded of the COSTS of this dysfunction all the way to election day. They need to be reminded of the should haves, could haves and would haves… of there decision to not act or act against the wills of the american voters…

“They’re undermining the norms for how we conduct ourselves. They’re threatening what we value most,” he said.

Please, they took those norms out and put two rounds in the back of their heads at least two elections ago.
