Gee, that’s hilarious. So glad he can joke around about this.
And it’s also great to see those photos of him gripping and smelling the hair of males, because that just shows that none of his behavior is in any way peculiar or creepy.

Thank you for your posts on this. You do get it and I’m grateful.
yes, in a patriarchal society, what men do has to be interpreted differently – and the men (and women) who are unable/unwilling to understand this should not be our first choice for leadership.
Sigh. This is why the feminist movement isn’t for women like me. I’m not going to live my life in a state of perpetual victimhood where if Oprah or Michelle Obama hugs me and plants one on me she’s showing me love, but if Biden does it then I’m a victim. Nope. I’ve been a real victim and this ain’t it.
I’m the one saying enough is enough, not Biden – though I’m sure he’d like to say it too. But to be clear, I’m saying it because I think this tempest is not good for Democrats. And, as much as I think Biden should have stopped this shit years ago and know I would’ve hated his hands on me as much as Al Franken seems to in the photo up top, I still would really like to see the end of all this.
I don’t see how that happens, however. An apology won’t change anything. The accusations will keep coming because it’s pretty clear that they’re politically motivated. And now there will be outrage over Biden laughing.
I’e asked it before but I will again. Cui bono?
sorry, but you are the one trivializing abuse here. Because no one is calling this sexual abuse. They are calling it what it is – inappropriate behavior.
But people like you want to make it about sexual abuse, and point to ‘inappropriate behavior’ isn’t as bad as sexual abuse, and therefore we should ignore the inappropriate behavior.
And I call BS.
Attacking women to defend a tone-deaf response is never a good look.
The problem as I see it is that no matter what apology he gives, if there is a woman somewhere who says she is dissatisfied then he is required to give another one. Obviously, if he is making an endless series of apologies, this would make it impossible for him to be a viable candidate. I understand the discomfort of the women affected, but viewed on a macro level, I don’t think most people, or most women, view Biden’s behavior as disqualifying. He is not accused of sexual assault, rather breaches of social etiquette. So, he issued his apology, make of it what you will, and decide based on this, and the million other issues out there who you are going to have to consider about the future of this country.
Who interprets it differently? If a white man sees a black kid at his door selling magazines he might “interpret” that as a threat. Is it? If an evangelical florist is told he has to sell flowers to a gay couple for their wedding…he might well consider that a violation of his space. Is it? The point is how we perceive things is subjective. That is why intent matters. Biden meant no harm. He did not do any actual harm. If some women are going to go off the deep end because he touched them…all I can say is if it was that damn traumatic maybe they should have said something at the time. Like Cut it out. I know I have before.
Not apologizing isn’t really a solution, though.
Think of this scenario below. Letting Biden off the hook is a similar perpetuation of the patriarchy, in the sense that men are always valued more than women.
This is how Democrats and liberals lose. They just make people roll their eyes. The patriarchy? Oh man. I give up.
Biden’s Trumpian response?
I haven’t the proof yet to base my admiration upon Bernie and his new PR people who are making Biden, and Klobuchar squirm. There will be lots more of this, I expect.
I really don’t know what to tell you if you think women have equal rights and opportunities in this country (or basically any country). The patriarchy is absolutely real. All of our institutions were male dominated and female excluded until maybe twenty years ago, out of the entire span of history, and even now women are only up to 20% representation in Congress or on executive boards. We’re not there yet. So we can’t stop now.
Anxious to hear Senator Gillerbrand on this,or maybe I’ve missed it.
Is it tone deaf? Truly at this point, I am hearing tone deaf all over the place. For one thing, I am a woman and I am getting tired of people speaking for me. This is ridiculous.
if/when Biden demonstrates that he finally “gets it”, it will stop. But Biden doesn’t get it. His video statement, in which he tried to use “comforting” disaster victims as an excuse for what he does, showed he didn’t get it. His joking about it shows he still doesn’t get it.
A problem doesn’t go away just because its inconvenient for the Party. Elizabeth Warren’s mishandling of the whole “pocahantos” thing is incredibly stupid – but its still a problem.
Well if he didn’t give them the ammunition they wouldn’t be able to use it would they? Yeah it will be like this because this is Biden and it would mean nonstop defending him.
I don’t know anything about that person or the context of the interaction to know how it compares to this situation, but what I see here are similarities to some of the criticism that Hillary Clinton suffered for not being sufficiently leftist on some parts of the left (she wasn’t, but she was a heck of a lot better than Trump). If you hold a microscope to any candidate, you are going to find some imperfections, but the big trend is that the left cannibalizing itself while the Nazis destroy our country.
I’ll quote a young woman I know (we’re discussing this topic):
“Ew! His jokes are so insulting and actually demeaning to all survivors of sexual violence. Because his joke hinges on the entire concept of consent! ”
