Discussion: Biden Is Expected To Officially Announce His Presidential Run Next Week

First in, first out. Might as well get it over with. I like Inslee, too, if he could just not try to be a one-trick pony on climate change.

Whoa, super exciting. (sarcasm)

Iā€™m good with Biden running. I donā€™t think heā€™ll win, I donā€™t even think heā€™ll make it through to the first primary but it will be good to have him out there loudly contrasting Republicans and Democrats. My only two concerns are 1) heā€™ll suck up money other candidates might get without him there and 2) heā€™ll suck up media attention from far better candidates (Warren, Harris, etc.). Minor concerns given who weā€™re likely running against though.

The people with knowledge of Bidenā€™s plans insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

WTF? I mean, really, WT Fucking F?

I think Biden is too old and I was really hoping for someone else (I think Jay Inslee would be fantastic), but I am coming to the conclusion that Biden may be the only one who can save us from a disastrous Bernie Sanders nomination. So if thatā€™s what it takes - go for it Joe.[/quote]

As the anointed Establishment candidate, Biden will draw most of Bernieā€™s in-party attacks. As Iā€™ve said before, this could serve the useful purpose of the two old white guys punching each other in the corner, while a better candidate emerges center stage.

But I donā€™t think he can make it through the primary. I think the Democratic electorate is looking for someone new and exciting to take on Trump. Biden isnā€™t a good campaigner; he already lost two primaries running for President. A debate between Trump and Biden would be a snooze-fest. Two old white guys talking past each other, waiting for their nap.

Biden and Bernie are both polling high on name recognition now. That wonā€™t be a factor after the debates get started.

He can announce all he wants. The only way heā€™ll get my vote is if I havenā€™t a choice. Iā€™d vote then spewā€¦

Just to refresh your memory. The second round of this wonā€™t be met with such laughter.

Iā€™m somewhere between a yawn and a shudder.

Go Joe! And keep goingā€¦

I still worry a lot about Sanders. I mean how could this 80-year old ex-radical socialist who partied with the Sandinistas and said nice things about Fidel Casto look in the mirror and think that he could possibly be elected President of the United States?

All he will do is poison the well be sowing dissension within the Democratic ranks and leaving a bitter taste with a large portion of the party faithful no matter what the outcome. If he happens to get the nomination by default, we are screwed. The Republican attack campaign will be vicious and relentless - no way will he be able to get ahead of it.

Sanders would have done the country and progressive causes a great favor by staying out of this one. The fact that he didnā€™t tells me he is at some level another Trump - itā€™s all about him!

That sounds remarkably like the ā€œpalling around with terroristsā€ line used by Palin against Obama for his relation with Ayers. Sure you want to go down that road?

I worry about Sanders too. And yeah, he has that same ā€œOnly I Can Fix Itā€ egotistic self-regard as Trump. Iā€™d like to assume the Dem voters are smart enough to realize he isnā€™t our best shot, but heā€™ll do a lot of damage in the meantime.

YES! I have heard this lineup from several posters. I am totally supporting this lineup too. BIDEN/HARRIS 2020!!

Iā€™m sure Joe could win the nomination on nostalgia alone.

But if we are looking backward we are looking at a loss in the general.

All previous nomination losers need not apply in my book.

And Joe sought the nomination twice beforeā€¦

This is not the Presidency of a beauty contest or fan club. Yes he has by far the best chance to win back the most powerful position the planet.

Please donā€™t.

You must be a Trump fan. I hear they are rooting for Biden.

Biden-Iraq Invasion. Probably the only thing we need to eliminate him, although there are many, many more good reasons.

Hereā€™s one of those reasons (link below) that I thought would be a complete disqualifier, but I guess it hasnā€™t crossed many peopleā€™s radar yet. He needs to get asked about this in the debates. Not just why he did it, because heā€™ll use ā€œwe all have to fight cancerā€ as an excuse. But why he refused to respond to the local DNC that begged him to limit the damage to the Democratic candidate in that election:

Looks like the hit piecesā€¦I mean ā€œcoverageā€ā€¦ is starting already. Hope Joe doesnā€™t have thin skin.

Buttigieg has charisma and a solid theme. Warren has detailed, attractive policies. Biden has none of that. Heā€™s going to win the nomination on name recognition alone? Please. The Dem electorate isnā€™t that dumb.
