Discussion: Beto O'Rourke Within Striking Distance Of Ted Cruz In New Poll

Fort Worth is in Tarrant County

"Election maps show a sea of red precincts in Tarrant County, with a few clusters of blue.

Clinton’s strength was in north, south and east Fort Worth, east Arlington and part of Euless.

Trump claimed victory nearly everywhere else in the county."

Trump won Tarrant County 51.7 to 43.1

As a native Texan, I have to say I just don’t see how even this repugnant pus-weasel can lose there. I’ve been waiting decades for the blue wave that always turns out to be a little trickle in the gutter that evaporates in the heat. Which may or may not have something to do with my northward migration.

I’m still gonna donate to Beto, though.

As long as you mean the Georgia within the United States and not the one that manafort probably worked for at some point, sure.

I wish he was within punching distance of Carnival Cruz…

Hey, to take Cruz out, I could tolerate an infusion of rubles…

I’m doing the happy dance here in the far, far west Texas “town” of El Paso. I’ve known Beto casually for years and have always been impressed by his straight-up common-sense explanation for his positions. He was one of the first, as a city rep here on the border, to talk about the need for legalizing marijuana to help end the drug wars in Mexico. This was years before there was any talk of this nationwide, and he was mocked for it but stood his ground with clear, optimistic eloquence. Go, Beto!

Something tells me that would actually work! God I love The Onion.

I heard that Ted Cruz is currently stuck on a campaign train that is stalled somewhere in a small town in Alabama.

I’ve heard “Ted is smart”, but is that from the same people that have been calling Ryan a policy wonk?

Wasn’t there an O’Rourke from El Paso who ran for Congress around 1990? I seem to recall Pat O’Rourke switching from the Democratic party to the Republican party and running (unsuccesfully) in the primary.

Edited:
So, after doing some research, I found what I was looking for. I volunteered for Beto’s dad in the Republican primary in the 16th District in 1992. It was an affiliation I had to explain later in my life. To this day, I have never voted for a Republican, but Pat O’Rourke was actually a Democrat who only switched parties for a chance to face and beat the incumbent Democrat, Ron Coleman. Beto’s dad was a really good guy. He lost in the primary by about 40 points to a local sportscaster, who went on to lose to the incumbent Coleman in the general.

Its not surprising given that his dad killed JFK. Most Texans though are happy about that.

Cruz has Koch money and NRA money – Cruz pitch is “my opponent wants to take your guns and have an open boarder” - pretty appealing to TX.

Somehow, I think that independents will decide the Senate seat. Cruz got more primary votes by far than O’Rourke - and, of course, independents can’t vote in the primary.

Total Democratic votes in primary around 1 million, and total Republican votes around 1.5 million, which may be why Cruz isn’t worried despite polls tightening. I’m thinking his ‘fear’ is just to drum up more campaign contributions. Sadly for the USA.. Beto would be good for the country. Hope I’m mistaken about how long the odds still are.
