Discussion: Beto O'Rourke Says Term Limits Keep Lawmakers From Becoming ‘A**holes’

Wouldn’t work with Ted Cruz he was an ass hole when he was elected

Also too, Donald. To achieve the level of assholiness that Donald has achieved, you would have had to been born an asshole.

It will be interesting who is the biggest asshole, Trump or Cruz. In my opinion Cruz is much more annoying, but both are characters that not even a dog would love.

What if you’re an asshole to begin with?

So, he’s running for a 6 year Senate seat and leaving in 4 if he should win? I’m confused here…

Off topic but hilarious:

I think he means for the house seat he is leaving, but I almost posted the same thing.

Beto needs a lot more congressional experience than to say something so naive as this. As everyone has pointed out, you can be an ahole walking in the door or gradually turn into one but term limits isn’t some magical panacea. Sometimes, having lawmakers in office for an extended time is beneficial because you actually get to learn what lawmaking is about. Seniority does have it’s positive points. Constant revolving doors creates “change” but not necessarily good change.

Dick – Don, Dick –Don

Who’s there?

Shades of McCarthyism.

Shades of a dictator.

Shades of a fascist.

Been here done this. If

O Congress primarily the Republican controlled Congress would do their jobs and cease to be afraid and speak up these people wouldn’t have to. Do your jobs, keep the old you swore upon least you get your butts fired

See how he is Donald Trump has dreams of being a fascist not just a dictator a fascist. Speak up Congress you incompetent lot you will be remembered after we fire your buds that you said bye and said nothing you sit in silence. And that would include or an hour Hatch you’ll fool you coward if Kennedy were here now I disown you use sack of crap you Mormon coward.

He is being unnecessarily kind to his opponent. You have to show your Certificate of Advanced Assholery BEFORE you get the nomination on the GOP ticket.

I like Beto, but he’s wrong. Term limits are anti-democratic. If the officeholder is not doing the job, vote him out. Run against him. Organize. But don’t blame incumbency for our problems. The problem is that those dissatisfied can’t motivate enough people. That’s called democracy.

Sorry, Beto. You don’t become an asshole, you just are one. Look at Zinke’s guy, whose sole mission at the moment is to facilitate the Sixth Great Extinction Event.

Agreed. Term limits also prevent anybody from becoming proficient at the job, rendering them wholly dependent on outside “experts” and campaign donor influence. Plus, it [lack of term limits] confers a certain degree of continuity. Imagine the chaos if the entire legislative branch was run by a bunch of noobs every four year! Also, how many people now wish that Harry Reid had been a bit more of an asshole to the Republican’ts, instead of Mr. Nice Guy Finishing Last???

My congressman, John Yarmuth D- Louisville, is a great congressman. If he had to term out, we could end up with 0 Dems in congress from KY. Our district is pretty safe Dem but in times like these, term limits for guys like him would not be good.

As long as seniority is a factor in congressional power term limits are necessary.

I know it’s Austin, but I was in Austin twice last month and saw TONS of BETO signs. Not ONE Cruz sign. Austin, though.

Another criticism of term limits is that when politicians cycle quickly even MORE power flows to lobbyists.

That sounds like the best solution. Money of course the other argument for term limits. How do you challenge a bought and paid for 80 year old rep or senator when they can outspend you 20-1? Where’s the ‘democracy’ in that?
