Discussion: Beto O'Rourke Raises $9.4M In First 18 Days As Presidential Candidate

I want to see the averages of their daily haul after the first 24 hours of their candidacy.

I mean, Mayor Pete raised 7 million in the first quarter, and he sure as hell didnā€™t have a $6 million dollar first day. Harris got 1.5 million on her first day, and has raised over $10 million since then.

So Iā€™m decidedly unimpressed with Betoā€™s numbers hereā€¦

$9.4 million of wasted money to support an an uber-rich unemployed white manā€™s grifting as he pretends to be qualified to be President.

So youā€™re in the tank for Biden, then.

I actually like Elizabeth Warren at this point. She actually beat an incumbent Republican when she ran for the Senate!

Biden is at least qualified by his experience to do the job as President. Oā€™Rourke is not qualified at all.

She did.

On the other hand he was an idiot who had come to power in a fluke victory against an ā€œunlikeable woman.ā€

Buttigiegā€™s rise is notable, no doubt. Much is made of his ability to bring this off with minimal name recognition at the start. That also means that the anti-Buttigieg stories were not out to blunt his progress. He has basked, and continues to bask, in a halo of adoring media ā€œcoverage.ā€ Nearly all of the other contenders, including Beto, met with a mixed bag of coverage and commentary when they announced. I really liked Betoā€™s initial push through the upper midwest. He is my second choice and I like him on the ticket.

I like Warren more than average around here and I think sheā€™d be fine. NB EVERYONE I do not have strong opinions and am not inviting a debate. That said, I like Beto the same way I liked this new guy Barack Obama I was seeing on TV. You hear him talk and he sounds like a smart, thoughtful person. I want to see and hear more. People who resemble Obama more than superficially are not thick on the ground. I doubt thereā€™s any way you can really be prepared for the role overall, although certain experiences and skills would obviously help. I think we need someone inspirational and really likable and full of energy and desire, and if Kamala Harris is that then more power to her. Mostly I want someone who will win.

Unless and until Biden gets in, we donā€™t know what the real field is. As of right now, itā€™s Bernie, Harris, Beto. All 3 have a way to raise money for the long haul, have constituencies within the party that are strategically located across key primaries states and can build organization. Warren is on the bubble as it remains to be seen if her fundraising issues will impact the perception of electability.

I really like Warren too, and donā€™t forget that weā€™re still waiting for Bookerā€™s numbers. I wouldnā€™t count him out just yet.

Iā€™m with @inversion, and excited for the debates.

Harris and Beto have the added advantage of their very large home state primary being on Super Tuesday this time. If Warren is still in the race, her home state is on Super Tuesday also. With or without Biden in,SC and Super Tuesday will still be brutal for Bernie. Bernie won Oklahoma in 2016 but Beto has a big grassroots army right across the state line.

Defeating Scott Brown 53-46 was hardly a massive win for the ages.

If his numbers include all that pharma cash heā€™ll be all set.

Me too. Really a stimulating bunch. I think the debates will be good for the party overall, or at least hope so. (Play nice, kids.) And given that heā€™s actually losing the ability to say words, I wonder if Trump will debate the eventual candidate at all.

Former Rep. Beto Oā€™Rourke (D-TX) raised $9.4 millionā€¦
Oā€™Rourkeā€™s campaign didnā€™t release how many individual donors made contributions.
But Oā€™Rourkeā€™s average $48 donation meansā€¦

Well, er, um, assuming that ā€˜averageā€™ in the last sentence refers to the mean donation, we, uh, have a pretty good handle on how many donors there were: ~196,000

Well, some people might have made more than one donation.

How many actually did so in 18 days is another story.

I know that is a wee bit of humor there but I still think Martha Coakley ran the worst political campaign I have ever seen in MA politics in my lifetime. She was a stunningly poor campaigner.

Yes, but please donā€™t remind me again.
