Discussion: Bernie Sanders: Trump Must Rescind Appointment Of 'Racist' Bannon

Give 'em hell, Bernie.

Good for him.

I saw on Ocupy Democrats (Facebook) which pulled from The Hill. That Bernie was named to a Senate Leadership Post, Chairman of Outreach. I have no idea what that means but, if it involves Bernie calling out Trump and his Racist Cabal on a daily basis, I’m cool with it.

I love Bernie’s passion – and he’s totally right about Bannon. However, I do not believe this is a fight we should take on. Bannon was appointed to help put together Trump’s team of people. As odious as that sounds, Trump has every right to do so. Bannon isn’t being appointed to a government position, IIRC, but if that ever happens, then hell yeah, fight it.

ETA: I am all for calling out Bannon’s racist, bigotry and so on … just don’t think we should expend energy demanding Trump remove him from the transition team.

Good for him. I would just like to note that this is 1/10 of the outrage —most of it manufactured without any real sentiment—which the GOP directs at Democrats and their actions virtually every day. Democrats need to keep this up every single day. I can see that Hillary has reasons for staying quiet, but there is no reason Kaine can’t pick up a megaphone. Where’s Schumer’s statement?

This is from the article in your link. It’s a great role for Senator Sanders.

In the role, Sanders will be in charge of reaching out to blue-collar voters who flocked to President-elect Donald Trump this year.

Wow. I can’t believe this… smartest move I have seen from Democrats since I cant remember.

It really is a good move on their part. Bernie will do great. If, as many of his own supporters claimed, their big issue was economic, yet didn’t hear what Hillary was saying, I’m hopeful Bernie can reach a good number of them.

The only way we will get rid of this guy is if he follows another call, and joins his former boss in hell. Given his looks I don’t think that this is all too unlikely to happen within the next four years.

Of course there an plenty more Bannons where he came from.

Well, I see your point, but I also think it’s important that Democrats signal to those of us who are frightened that they will stand up to Trump at every turn, that they will fight him at the mere appearance of bigotry. Sure, this isn’t the real fight, but it is an important one because by merely having it, by going after Pepe on this issue, it elevates the fact that Pepe is a racist who is now elevating racists to the highest level of power. Americans need to be reminded of this early and often, so appreciate Sanders going after him.

That is a great role, it’s certainly something we need to capitalize for the future.

Understood – and thanks for pointing out the need for those who are most frightened. Even though I am gay, I am a white male; therefore, I will likely have less issues of direct confrontation. That said, I am scared shitless. I’ve been moping all week, dealing with spine stuff, too, but this election result threw me for a big loop. I’ve been holed up in my apartment from the added depression. Thinking, sorting, planning. I’m really glad to see Senator Sanders taking a lead now. We need to regroup, but in a very thoughtful, deliberate manner once we decide on some of the goals.

No, Bannon isn’t appointed to assemble Trump’s team. He’s appointed to be Trump’s main strategic advisor! And his main strategy is racism. He will be the one telling Trump what to tell the nation. Concerned yet?

Bernie, I love you dearly, but you’re pissing into the wind. Trump will never do what someone else demands he do.

Here’s the part that I don’t get – why is everyone acting like Trump and his team, including Bannon, are some kind of radical departure for the GOP? Because they say overtly what the rest of the GOP has been saying, but with prettier language, for decades? Trump’s policies – tax cuts for the wealthy, anti-social services, anti-reproductive rights, anti-immigrants, anti-LGBT equality, pro-military-spending – are indistinguishable from the GOP’s standard positions for years.

Yes, I am very concerned. I find Bannon odious to the max. My original point was we need to choose our fights carefully since we are now a (basically) pretty powerless minority, legislatively. If Bannon is on the government’s payroll, then I think that’s even more of a reason to make this demand. I have no issues at all with making it clear to the American people–loudly, clearly, repeatedly–just what Bannon is. As a matter of fact, we have an obligation to do so. But, again, I just wanted to caution about being careful picking fights in which to engage. Thanks.

Remember what they did to Van Jones? We must take on every fight we can without second-guessing. It’s all we’ve got now. Every fight against these odious people is a fight worth having.

This about far more than trying to force Trump’s hand. This about sending a message to those who are frightened and those who may not yet even be aware of Bannon’s past. This is also about rallying the troops. It’s about remaining vigilant and hitting them at every turn now and remembering this is not normal. There’s no room for complacency.

When will these Progressives realize that Trump runs on one thing only: Childish Revenge.
He LOVES seeing you all squirm with his appointments and will continue to appoint the most excremental people he can find just to fuck with you.
The more you complain, the happier he (and his supporters) will be.
After all, that is the point. Not governing. Oh, Your, God, that is the furthest thing from his coked-up mind.

Sanders was the one who elected Drumpf. So it makes sense for him to say Bannon must go.
